For the past few months ALL of my games and 3dmark06 included have always crashed to black screen and then to the desktop with the message that the video driver stopped responding and has recovered etc. I have contacted my manufacturer and they can fix my computer but the problem is that it will take a few weeks to a month or two because of shipping etc. I want to see if it is possible for me to fix this problem so that I am not computerless for the next month. When this first happened I thought it was a driver problem, so I uninstalled all drivers and did driver sweeper etc then installed new drivers and that didnt work. I ended up waiting a month for my 8800 to get replaced only for the new card to come back and the same thing happen again. So now that the videocard isnt seen as the problem I tested my memory with memtest86 and that turned out perfectly. I fixed windows by the startup fix thing using the windows disk but that didnt do anything. So now it only leads to my motherboard. if my motherboard were to be the problem, is there anything I could do to try to fix it, like reset it or something?? I really dont know how I would do that so could anyone here help me?? Also would you recommend I try the long process of backing up everything and redoing windows? Is there any program on vista that allows somethign like that easily?

my specs:
Q6600 (not overclocked atm)

2 gig DDR3 gold OCZ memory

MSI 8800 ultra

asus blitz extreme intel p35 mobo

vista ultimate x64

ALL Drivers are updated!!!!

any help is appretiated!!!

 edit:

also all temps are low all at 40-50 celsius gpu at 60

I'm having a similar problem as well. No matter what drivers I install, all my games are crashing left and right. Texture glitches and the whole shibang. I'm thinking about reinstalling Vista or XP.

The common thing you both have is you're using a GeForce 8800 - could it be driver related?

I know the OP has the latest drivers, but those could be the problem. If you download an older set of drivers from a couple of months ago (or use your last set of drivers before you had this problem if you can remember what they were)

Bios update? BTW what's your PSU.

I had the same probleme with my 780i mobo, ever since I have a x48 mobo, no crashes. I'm guessing it was driver mobo {everything with Nvidia chipset)or something really wrong with the mobo.

if your mobo have built in video, try remove the your 8800 video card and use the built in video display... run the crash applications, if still same, try check the dxdiag sound accelerations, drop the setting one by one levels and see...

the above way is the verify and confirm whether your 8800 got problem.
