If you are having problems using wireless when someone is using a protable phone, it is because the phone is operating at 2.4GHz. 802.11B and G operate at 2.4GHz. So that means your wireless internet and your phone are on the same frequency. The cheapest option would be to replace the phone. The more expensive option would be to use an 802.11N router and card. You can get a 5 or 8GHz phone pretty cheap anyway. It's important to consider the things that interrupt 2.4GHz radio transmissions. You might be surprised to hear that pine needles oscillate at 2.4GHz. If there is chicken wire in your walls, you create something called a Faraday Cage, which will prevent signal from going out of the room. Also electric motors in microwaves and refrigerators cause problems. Thanksfully, your problem is easier to diagnose. That's just some insight on common 2.4GHz problems with B or G networks.

You can change the channel frequency on your router, though I only know how to do it on Linksys branded routers. I had the same problem until I switched to a different channel.
