So, I just purchased Napoleon Total War. I am having serious internet issues at the moment, so thought a good PC game would satisfy me whilst the worst of this weather is out of the way. Now I am told that the game is not even on the disc! That is right, I have actually bought a game for £30 and the game is not even on the disc. It simply refers me to STEAM where I have to download the game. No offline options to get game working! Lamest game ever! I am advising as many forums as possible that this is a crap game.

it's not a crap game, it's actually really good. They did it that way to stop pirates, which really sucks. People like you and I who bought the game suffer because of theft, don't blame the company, blame the pirates. It doesn't really take that long to get, and there are offline options to play once it's installed, how can you say a game is crap without ever playing it? You are being childish. Bottom line is it's a pc only game and most people play it for the single player so it really is a product that needs to be protected against the pirates.

How is the game crap if you failed to realize what you need to even install it? :|

The key here is to be an informed consumer. There are several games these days that require an internet connection to play. You would have had the same problem with games like Assasins Creed 2 or Starcraft 2. What can I say? I'm sorry you can't enjoy the game, it's actually a pretty good title. Empire also required you to log onto steam. Bottomline: you didn't do your research. That's on you, not the game.

Napolean total war is an amazing game.... Steam is just awesome. Why may I ask did you not read the box requirements before you bought it?? Oh and you don't have to download the whole game... You install it off the disk and then you have to download any updates and patches which the developer has released. Seen as these updates all make the game better and improve flaws and add new features I don't see why your'e annoyed.

It seems like you're annoyed with yourself because you didn't take the time to even read what you were buying but instead made an unimformed purchase....

I bought the disk version too and it quite clearly states on the box "Requires internet connection and free steam account to activate". If I remember correctly when you install it via the disk steam only downloads the updates. It is the exact same if you buy the disk version of empire total war.

I don't know if it is a good game, because the stupid makers of this crap made it almost impossible to play.

How can you play the game then without the steam feature? If the steam updates are optional, you tell me how to install the FULL game so I can play it?

And yes, everyone is right, I didn't read all the text on the product, because I didn't think any game manufacturer would be so stupid.

I have posted this on other forums too, and others have had the same problem. Seems a lot of people dislike this feature that doesn't allow you to play the game you just purchased.

Uber lame.

P.s The download option is politely informing me that it will be downloaded in 1 DAY 9 HOURS!!! What a crap game. I have literally binned.

Install from disk, install updates, play. Is it that hard?

yeah, because it is not installing from disc, it just goes automatically to steam option, i.e downloading the whole game, rather than downloading from and booting from the disc.

You can't play the game without steam. But steam takes forever! Lame.

No, you didn't. What you mean is that you played in offline mode. Which you can't do except through Steam.

No, you didn't really. You are merely playing in offline mode, which only works once STEAM has had chance to 'update' and then you can play in offline mode. But you didn't install without STEAM, you only installed with STEAM, which means it is STEAM dependent and it is not POSSIBLE to install without STEAM.

Did you try quitting Steam totally by closing the icon on the tray and quitting the service in Task Manager before inserting the disc?

The game can be installed FROM THE DISC, through steam. But there will be patches to download. You should of read the box, it says it requires and internet connection or steam.

Lol, you said a couple of posts ago that you couldn't install from the disc. You can, I did. The game content is on the discs (yeah, there's two, why would they bother putting two if the game content wasn't on the disc), you just need Steam to activate and download patches and DLCs. In that post above, you just said "Oh, and you CAN'T INSTALL FROM DISC' which is untrue.

Don't blame Steam, not their fault that Sega and Creative Assembly decided to make it a Steamworks game so blame them.

You're going to blame a company for a problem that could have been avoided if you'd used your brain?
