Visual Concept's NBA 2K series will make its PC debut on October 21 with NBA 2K9, publisher and studio owner 2K Sports announced today.

"The PC version will please even the most dedicated basketball fans with the same level of quality simulation we've become known for in the console versions of the NBA 2K franchise," promised 2K sports development VP Greg Thomas.

2K Sports' expansion into the PC market follows rival EA's decision to not release PC editions of its major franchises this year, though PC releases will return next year.

As with the latest entry EA's NBA Live series, the PS2, PS3 and Xbox 360 editions of NBA 2K9 arrive in stores today.

The game has no online functions at all but requires an internet connection for authentication. I doubt many people are interested in this.

YES!!! who needs a console when you've got good **** coming to the pc? first, sf4; now nba 2k! i hope the next one will be mlb 09 the show! and fight night 4 (though that's unlikely, since ea sucks!!!).

Eeesh, you didn't just say what I think you said. Did you? And I'm not talking about the online functions part. Is this DRM confirmed?

Oh well, I may pass on this game because of it, I'll have to see where price lingers after a while (if it's super cheap, maybe I don't care). At some point in the future I probably won't care about this type of DRM in games regardless, but that ain't happened yet! :P

Anyway, congrats to the people excited for the game, and glad to see it on the PC!!!

The game only cost $20.00 but without any online functions (rosters & online multi-player) I don't see the point. The majority of PC games have some sort of DRM in place.

$20 isn't bad at all :) Especially if for some reason (I wouldn't) I thought of getting this for my PS3, $20 is a comparative bargain. Personally, I couldn't care less about any online features, that's not why I'd play the game. Well, I take that back, some online features might be a cool bonus, but online multiplayer at least is not something I care about.

People that frequent these forums are typically well aware of the prevalence of DRM in PC games....it's not just any DRM that some people object to.

The game requires steam, so hopefully that will be the extent of its drm... I might pick it up, sure online would be nice, but its only 20 bucks.

That is potentially very good news!

I'd prefer no online authentication/activation, however, if publishers insist it's needed, Steam (w/o an additional layer of DRM) is perhaps the best example of balance in providing benefits for gamers at the same time as imposing restrictions.

Like I mentioned, I personally wouldn't even bother with online play with a game like this (a game of highly casual interest), however, of course it will be a feature many other gamers will want. It'd be nice, but....it's only $20!! $20!!! Sounds good to me anyway.

Thanks for the info.

THI sgame is absolutely unbelievably amazing for pc. Its a real shame that there is no online, but im guessing its a test to see if it sells well. I hope it does. This game owns the console versions.

Actually, $20.00 is right on the mark,. The game is pretty well put together, the gameplay is solid, and does look extremely nice. I only have a couple issues with the game notably the on-screen control help bar does not factor in what controller you are using. For me the only hitch with the game is the initital challenge menu seems to suffer from slowdown for the first 20 seconds, whereas the I suffer from no issues in the actually in the game[play scenarios itself.

The online component is no major loss to me since I prefer to play a sports game with a person being physically there.

My settings are as follows 1680 x 1050 with all settings maxed.
