I am going to the store today and I need to find a very competitive online multiplayer game. I have played Cod4, CS, WoW, Warhammer, Age of Empires. Either those games died out, or they werent that competitve. What can you recommend? I was thinking maybe world in conflict or CoD5 but I heard CoD5 sux and its a waste of money.

TF2. COD5 is alright but personally I get bored of doing the same thing over and over but its no different than CS in that respect.

cod 5 is just cod 4 in WW2 mp wise. cod 4 certainly hasn't died out, so I'm guessing it's not competitive enough for you?

Not true. Cod: WaW is not a bad game! CoD 4 is just a tad better. ^^

I'd say go for a Valve title, such as L4D or TF2. ( Which are the best multiplayer FPS ever in my opinion. )

Get TF2, i find it to be rather competitive. I have CoD:WaW and would recommend TF2 over it anyday.

TF2 deffinitely reaches one of my top 10 games of all time.

World in Conflict can be competitive if you go hardcore and think fast. Also TF2 is competetive if you aren't being an engineer and actually go out in the fight, but you can't run n' gun. Starcraft and Warcraft 3 can be competeive but they may not be what you are looking for...

Company of Heroes, TF2, and Left 4 Dead :D

Left 4 Dead is very competitive game online if you can get a game where no one decides to leave because they don't get to play as the Infected :P So much fun!

World in Conflict isn't really competitive its more of a team oriented game and you'll find that all it takes is a couple of noobs on your team to ruin the whole game. I just got Team Fortress 2 for Christmas and I don't see where the competitiveness other people are talking about. I find it just a fun game to play. I've never actually played it, but I think you should try Counter Strike, as it is the epitome of competitive games from what I hear.

I seeyou have been mentioning L4D. I bought L4D a week ago and online its wierd. It seems very repetitive and there are no ranks. The aspect of the game is really sweet, I just dont see it being played in leagues or tournaments like cs or CoD

Counter Strike, or Counter STrike source is a very competitive game i dont know what your talking about, and there one of the bigges mulitplayer games. ITs jsut not really that competive until you get into the swing of things i.e scrims and tournaments

Word to that. CoH is absolutely superb. If you want competition, try that game. Takes a lot of learning and reading up on strat but it is easily the best RTS I've ever played.

Counter-Strike 1.6(one of the most competetive ladders in clanbase), Team Fortress 2, Unreal Tournament 2004 (this is where you get ur ass handed out to ya) , Unreal Tournament 3. Smash brothers series is pretty competetive if you live in the US i've heard.

Best choice imo would be TF2 or UT3. The other ones are old and the people are insanely skilled. The top players in Cs 1.6 have played it since release. And I wouldn't go with something that old anymore either.

Anyway, GL finding a game =)

EDIT: Oh and ones you "learn" the game, search for clans/ladders/cups/tournaments. You can't really be competetive on a public server.

Wow, we're talking about competitive games and no mention of StarCraft yet? :| So in that case, I get to recommend: Counter-Strike: Source and StarCraft
