As the title explains, I need a new gaming rig. I really don't know much about motherboards, processors, building, or much any of that.

Right now i've got an ancient Pentium 4 2.60Ghz, the graphics card is a fairly current GeForce 7600 GS 512mb. The mobo came with the computer and is something along the lines of an Intel GTL. Any suggestions are welcome. My Budget is about $1000, though I probably could spare a couple hundered over. Thanks.

Looking for a pre-built, or something you are going to build?

And, are you going to use it for gaming, or general use?

Gaming. I don't really know if I want prebuilt or Custom, whichever is best I guess, though I know nothing of building computers.

Well, to be honest... I would wait for the new Intel chips to come out.

Best would be to build your own. It's easy and fun.

Here is what I am thinking

CPU: E8400

Mobo: Asus P5Q pro

RAM: Corsair 4gb (2x2gb) XMS2 PC 800 DDR2

Video Card: ATI 4870X2

PSU: Corsair 750TX

Case: Cooler Master RC 690

CPU Cooler: Arctic Cooling Freezer Pro 7

Those are the essentials, the only other things you would need are a DVD drive and a HDD, which you probably already have.

Forget E8400. Get E7200 with Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme. 4ghz with ease and no heat issues. And don't get Acer LCDs. Their quality compared to LG is not even close.

You need to get your facts straight. First of all, there are better coolers than the TRUE 120 that cost far less. Secondly, an E8400 at stock speed will perform better than an E7200 at 4ghz because it has double the cache size. Additionaly, an E8400 can overclock well past 4ghz, which the E7200 cannot.
