Alright guys, although this is a forum normally exclusive to gaming, I was wondering if maybe you guys would be able to help with a somewhat unrelated topic. Basically, I will be using my computer for the following: Music Production - I would also like it to have a very good sound card/processor Gaming.. Somewhat - I will play the odd game on it, such as CounterStrike Source, Garry's Mod, maybe a few others, Maplestory I would like more RAM that I think I would need - As apparently RAM is decently cheap these days Very Good Graphics If you guys would need anymore info, I'd be glad to answer what I can. Thanks in advance PS. I currently don't really have a budget, however I think it's safe to say I'd like to keep it under $1,500. I don't want to spend a crazy amount however I also don't want to skim off quality for the sake of saving money. PPS. I would also like to be purchasing my products from Newegg.ca
Another thing to mention, as it may help a little, is some music production programs I'll be running. They are: NI Massive FL Studio Ableton Reaktor Vocaloid
ill see what i can do.. do you need fixings like a monitor keyboard mouse, speakers etc? if you already have some of these which can be reused you can shave a good amount of expendatures and let me and others focus more of the parts themselves.
I'll reuse my mouse and keyboard, however in regard to speakers, I have none. I normally don't use speakers mind you, as I constantly have headphones plugged into my monitor. That being said, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say my monitor isn't the greatest. It certainly isn't horrible, but if I want to get a good graphics card I don't think it'll do it justice. The monitor I currently have is an HP vs 19 that game with the computer I'm currently using when I purchased it years ago. I'll let you be the judge, but I still have a feeling I'll be getting a new one. If you do have good speakers in mind btw, by all means mention them. I minus well make a little list of things I may purchase later on after I already have my computer built and such

I minus well make a little list of things I may purchase later on after I already have my computer built and such Fostex monitors I have a keen eye for, not that expencive and great sounding. I use E-mu 1010/0404/1212 soundcards, I don know why but they were very good when I brought them nowdays they're a bit old, Julia is a simpler card if you don't need the live inputs. For a studio soundcard I would actually go about and find a used one, But what are your purpose really, do you need a patch and 12 line in? Headphones to final a mix is crap, any musican/soundtechnican will tell you the very same thing, headphones skew your stereo listning, and 99.8% of the headphones provide a insane flat sound curve in the lower bass region that no real speakers can provide. You NEED monitors or your final mix will sound horrible with buumly bass as a result. In Ableton/cubase wheva.. you'll want a large monitor, the larger the more info you can have on the screen, having a 19" with low pixelcount won't do, I use a dualmonitor settup so I can have one screen with effects/mixers and the second for the song. You'll want a 4core CPU, enough to prosses all the VST's or make mp3's in a short time. You'll want atleast 4GB ram, most musicproduction programs don't use it all but you'll be glad if you dont have less than 4GB. Graphic card, onboard would do. case and casefans are VERY important, this is where you would lay some thought in it, you'll have to buy amf sounddampening to fill the inside of the case. You'll need a good HSF for the CPU, preferably a really silent one, perhaps even a passive one.
