Hi, I am currently looking for a new MMO ever since I became extremely bored with WoW. I tried Guild Wars for a bit but didn't like the low level cap or the fact that better gear is just cooler looking at lvl 20. It was a good idea but not my cup of tea. I tried WAR and AoC at launch but quit after I saw all the problems these games faced. Does anyone know if those games have gotten it together yet? I recently played the trail for Lotro and I liked it better than WoW but wanted some feedback to it. Oh yeah, don't mention EVE because I don't like games that give me headaches lol. That is about it, leaning towards LotRO but might go to AoC or WAR if they got it all together. Looking forward to your opinions.

WOW, if good looking gear is what you came for looking at Guild Wars you missed the whole concept idea of the game; the game isn't about leveling up or having a cool gear - it's all about doing missions co-op with your friends, killing enemies and bosses with tactics - arranging your own skills as you may noticed you can only choose up to 8 skills, costumize your weapons and armor that best suits your tactics, it's all about the PvP or PvE - I want you to slay the dragon at the end of the game just by using a good lv20 armor and weapon and clicking on some random good skills - it take all of the 6 players to build up a team tactic to slay the dragon since it changes it's own tactic against you depending on how much HP it has left - now that's a game!

My bad, I should have explained this better. I understand the model of the game and all but it just wasn't for me. I am just more used to the standard MMO model. Plus this game also seemed to cater more to PvP IMO, someting I'm not real big on.

I remember when I loved playing SWG, ahh those were the days. Now I can't stand playing mmo's. The idea of grinding has killed those games for me.

EVE Online is worth the effort. It's a steep learning curve which will take a while to get into, but there is just so much to do in the game. Join a corp, learn the ropes.

guild wars - no eve online - no , it will take you atleast 5 months of learning (i mean teaching your avatart to drive ships and all that shh) to actualy start to play the game , and then still you will be disapointed... if your wow veteran and you got bored of wow , try aoc , thats the most unique combat standart mmo game , it has skills , quests , talents , classes , just like wow but different style and gameplay :) and join pvp server !

Well there are free trials for these MMO's, so give him the right to explore the options. I said EVE is a steep learning curve, but that's the appeal, you have so much to do ingame, this isn't some mindless spell binding magical WOW, EVE actually has lasting appeal.. and looks very nice too. Once esatablished what you want to do in EVE, you can make ingame money which pays for the accounts. I've not paid for the game for years.

As a rule of thumb, avoid anything free to play from Korea. Unless you REALLY love your grinding. I know some people enjoy it, but no-one I know and not me. Also, dungeons and dragons online, maybe. I think its ok, just not fantastic.

I know it's old but you could give Asheron's Call a chance. I started playing a few months back. Didn't play for long because at the time I didn't want to pay for an MMO anymore. I was thinking about starting up again because they just released a new race and every two months until October they will release another one. Plus, its the cheapest deal at $12, ok, not buy much. Otherwise, I was thinking about checking out Lord of the Rings. Since they're been having so many cheap deals lately.

Yes. I play it from time to time, great fun. Very deep, quite overwhelming, but very unique. Worth a try at the least.

You could try Everquest 2. Its sorta similar to WoW, but is pretty different at the same time. Similarity is that its quest focused. I'm just starting up

From what I know of in EQ2...

EQ2 you can buy a house, or your guild can have a guild house. Pretty big world looking at the in-game map, and TONS of content.

(edit, whoops forgot to add)

The game has a good size population too. Some servers are really low, but Antonia Bayle server is very crowded throughout all the levels. Or another good server, not as populated as Antonia but still a good size med-pop is Lucan Dlere. Both are RP servers, but at least on Antonia, there doesn't appear to be much RP outside of guilds (similar to WoW RP servers (at least ones I tried) I guess)

Age of Conan is a decent adult-themed MMO, and I think they have a free trial :) I tried it - It wasn't my type of game but it was pretty.

Warhammer Online is another decent game if you like PvP and I enjoyed the group quests :)

Dungeons and Dragons Online is Free to Play now and worth checking out if you are a D&D fan.

EVE Online can be VERY complex, but also very rewarding. You can make money doing missions, pirating, building ships, or simply playing the market. It does take a few months of training to be able to pilot the very big ships, but you can make an impact even as a new pilot. Death Penalty is probably the harshest of any game as you lose your ship permanantly and most components that were on it.

AION is a newer MMO. It's very pretty and I enjoy it quite a bit. The player base for some servers has started to decline a bit. It's like WOW-questing for the first 15-20 levels, then mixes in some grind along with more quests. It was originally a Korean MMO but has been somewhat changed for Western players. I will say I love the armor customziation :) I'm not sure if they have a trial, but I know if you head over to thier forums here on Gamespot there are people offering buddy keys.

Those are the one's that I have personally played. I have not tried Guild Wars so I cannot comment :)
