Hi,

I need a new pair of headphones. I am willing to spend up to about $150 (I am willing to use eBay and Amazon). I'm coming from a pair of A4Tech generic headphones, so decent headphones are going to be a big jump.

They need to:

- Have good build quality (will be taken to school)

- Look good (I like the look of the V-Moda Crossfade LPs)

- They also need to block out noise. I'm going to use it on my gaming computer, where I have 10 Delta fans. It's as loud as a jet engine starting up, and the headphones need to block out that noise.

Thanks

EDIT: My current headphones are the A4Tech HU200.

> If you don't want the ATH-M50 for any reason, spend a little extra and buy a pair of V-Moda Crossfade M-80 (pictured, right). They are very, very good headphones equal in sound quality if not superior to the ATH-M50, but they look great, have an excellent warranty, tons of cord options for both iPod and non-iPod MP3 players, and a fantastic carrying case. They block out sound exceptionally well, are comfortable, and built like a tank. I've tried many, many headphones, and these are easily in my top five in terms of value.

If it's just too expensive, the Skullcandy Aviators are actually pretty nice. Don't let the name fool you, the Aviators are quality headphones, and have a cool retro look. You can try them at any Best Buy.

There are lots of other options, but those two are probably my top picks in terms of aesthetics and sound quality.

Good luck,

Boz

I've heard that the Crossfade LPs are just an over ear version of the M80s. If this is true, I'll get the LPs, because I prefer the aesthetics. If not, I'll get the M80s.

The Crossfade LPs are different headphones entirely from the M80s (I've owned the M80s and listened to the LP2's). The M80's are significantly better in terms of audio fidelity. The LP and LP2s are "muddy." Additional feedback from enthusiasts can be found here:

  • http://www.head-fi.org/t/583801/v-moda-crossfade-m-80-or-v-moda-crossfade-lp2

V-Moda is developing the M100's, which will be their higher-end over-ear headphones, but it'll be in the $300 range, supposedly.

Note that Radio Shack carries the M80s, so if you go to their site and do a search for one in stock and buy it retail, you basically have a 30-day audition. I bought them, auditioned for 30 days, returned them, then bought them again. :P

Good luck,

Boz

Alright, thanks. I'll get the M80s then.
