Seasonic and Superflower both make excellent PSUs.

Pretty sure it should be under warranty still if it's only a year old. I'd check with seasonic about a replacement before spending money on a new one.

It might be damaged MOBO, make sure all the connections are placed like the CPU cooler pin etc, you can also try to clear CMOS.

Try check for any burn marks/ smell of burnt plastic. Lightning and power surges can sometimes do damage without even leaving much evidence that they did. I once had lightning hit my PC, the plug and multiplug were still working perfectly, but the mobo, psu and gfx card were fried. My CPU, memory and hard drives all survived.

Visibly there was almost no damage.

I live in an area where massive and powerful lightning storms are a very common occurrence. Even with unplugging my router at the start of a storm when I can, I still go through 1-2 routers a year due to lightning damage.

That said, the bolt which took out my PC was a freaky one. It took out a TV, a laptop and my PC. All which were on separate plugs. Luckily insurance replaced everything.

Do you live near Sauron? Where on the Earth is this happening?

@trustygamer: Lol, I live in Johannesburg. The self-proclaimed lightning capital of the world. You have not lived through a proper lightning storm until you have had windows in your house blown out by the force of thunder.

The extremely dry air of Johannesburg, combined with the high elevation and all the large amount copper and other metals in the ground create a sort of "perfect storm" for lightning conditions. If you'll excuse the pun.

We usually have between 500-1000 deaths per year as a result of lightning here. Some years more.

@nigeriaforlife: Hello.

This is a bit strange.

I can think a lot of things that it can cause this, maybe if you give us a little more info, it would help a lot.

Especially, what you did last time it was working and how is it atm. Are there any lights on the mobo that working atm?

The first thought that came to my mind is CIH. The virus Chernobil that will FDISK your HDD and erase your motherboard's BIOS.

The seasonic PSU you have is one of the best 1K watt PSU money can buy...

So, what did you do before when it was working?

@Coseniath: How is it possible for a virus to delete the mobo bios? And what is FDISK?

@horgen: Its possible, you can even have access to bios from windows, so its possible for a virus to do it.

Well its not actually FDISK, FDISK is the command to do it. The virus deletes all partitions of your HDD.

Its a very dangerous virus.

I already got hit many years ago, cause it was inside official Solder of Forute Demo. :P

@Coseniath: Are you sure you got the official one? If so, I would have tried to get back at them somehow.

@horgen:

The 10 Most Destructive PC Viruses of All Time

CIH (1998)

Estimated Damage: 20 to 80 million dollars worldwide, countless amounts of PC data destroyed

Unleashed from Taiwan in June of 1998, CIH is recognized as one of the most dangerous and destructive viruses ever. The virus infected Windows 95, 98, and ME executable files and was able to remain resident in a PC's memory, where it continued to infect other executables.

What made CIH so dangerous is that, shortly after activated, it would overwrite data on the host PC's hard drive, rendering it inoperable. It was also capable of overwriting the BIOS of the host, preventing boot-up. Because it infected executable files, CIH wound up being distributed by numerous software distributors, including a demo version of an Activision game named Sin.

CIH is also known as the Chernobyl virus because the trigger date of certain strains of the virus coincides with the date of the Chernobyl nuclear reactor accident. The virus is not a serious threat today, thanks to increased awareness and the widespread migration to Windows 2000, XP, and NT, none of which are vulnerable to CIH.

When I heard about it, one word came to my mind. "Ouch!"

ps: It seems that the original version cannot affect today's users, but some people were always improving this virus for some reason...

@Coseniath: Ouch indeed. Why don't ever some of those creative and good virus writers ever work for a software company? They could make excellent software :P

@horgen: I think a lot of them did it, but the companies that hire them, keep it secret for obvious reasons.

Same thing happens with NSA/CIA etc etc (well with them, they might also have their criminal record deleted)...

Okay so the problem was the motherboard, but MSI don't have any z77 in stock so they are offering me $50 for it. I don't know if I can find another z77 board. Next time I will buy two mobos before building a pc in case one fails. What do you think I should do?

Okay so I found three mobos Asrock extreme4 z77, Gigabyte G1 sniper3, both are $219, and asrock z75 pro3 $90 after mir. And some asus h61,b75 boards. Don't feel like spending $200 on last-gen boards but don't want it to fail again either. Which one should I get?
