Hi,

In May I will get a new built, I've searched a lot and I've come down to this built:

case: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129058

CD/DVD burner: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827129032

HDD: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148395

Power supply:http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371009

MB: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131359

CPU: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115202

RAM:http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145220

GPU:http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130446

This builtwill be used withwindows Vista

My main problem is that I'm not sure if it's a good idea to go for vista...I have mixed feelings about how my windows XP games will going to react to vista and I'm wondering if I should built a windows XP based rig instead (with 2 gig of DDR3 1333 instead of 6 gig, an intel core 2 duo E8600 instead of core i7, and a LGA775 MB of course instead of a LGA1366 MB)...if I do that, I'm saving around 250 $ but does a 250 $ cut is enough to go for a the windows xp rig instead of the vista rig ???...as you can see, I'm messed up in my head and need help

Thanks

I would take XP out of the equation, Vista would be my choice on either system. After that....I would follow the advice from AnandTech:

http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/intel/showdoc.aspx?i=3513&p=7

If I had to build a new desktop today I'd go Core i7 and think about upgrading to a 6-core version sometime next year. If I couldn't or didn't need to build today, then the thing to wait for is Lynnfield. Four cores that should deliver i7-like performance just can't be beat, and platform costs will be much cheaper by then (expect ~$100 motherboards and near price parity between DDR3 and DDR2).

I was worried about this at first but then I figured out that if I always wait for the new technology, I'll never get a new rig...With my next rig I'm aware that I'll probably have to change the Motherboard and the CPU in the next 2-3 years, but I can live with that.

Well, I play the games in my sig. and except for The Witcher their pretty old. I've had no problems with KOTOR 1 & 2, Fear, Rainbow Six Vegas and Half-Life. Cheers

A full tower like the twelve hundred would cost me 50$ more and with only 1GPU and 1 HDD, I don't think I'll need a bigger case

Any game that worked under Windows XP/2000 should work under Vista/Windows 7 in compatibility mode.

"Should" being the key word there. There are old games that I would love to play, but I cannot. Even in compatibility mode, and with no sound device, some old games still crash in XP...

You went a bit too back. Vista only supports apps which support XP or 2000, it is likely to fail in 98/95 apps.

I still use XP though. I didn't buy Vista, as Vienna will be the true XP replacement...

I thought about getting my core i7 rig but using xp instead of vista until Windows 7; but with my 6 gb of ram and my 1 gb of vram, I'll be screwed with xp

September is too far...I want my new rig in may, as soon as school ends so I can have all summer long to play my favorite games :D....and I've learned a lesson in the past, if you always wait for better harware/software, you'll never buy anything...that's why I'm still using my 5 years old dusty dell xps Pentium 4 with my almost dead radeon xt850xt PE

Not any ghsoting or lagging that i notice the color are Seem to be Perfect for price worth how ever i just say you need to find the 160/160 perfect hangle which is like the forehead never at higher then the top of monitor the solution to see Perfect clarity / Brightness But that to all Tn panel tough
Then you can go with Brightness Tuning in the setup to see if you like more at 75% or 90% the Settings

If i could ad S-IPS i may have there soon a E-IPS 23 inch that will release i heard from 250-350$US Which is Better Then Tn panel in color and maybe Brigthness but unlike s-IPS who are top-notch monitor from like PLanar / Doublesight : but in canada was out of question way overpriced and 1-2 in stock
compare to usa About 20 in stock and half the price in canada 450-750$ Vs 1007$+
http://www.pchardwarehelp.com/guides/s-ips-lcd-list.php
But if you can't Afford s-IPS you may go interrested With E-IPS it seem the first will be a LG 23 inch
http://www.displayblog.com/2009/01/28/lg-display-lpl-23-e-ips-1080p-lcd-monitor-panel/
Display: 23″ 8-bit e-IPS (In-Plane Switching) TFT LCD
Aspect Ratio: 16:9
Pixel Format: 1920 x 1080
Brightness: 250 cd/m2
Response Time: 6ms (GTG: Gray-to-Gray)
Contrast Ratio: 1000:1
Viewing Angles: 178/178
Color Gamut: 72% of CIE1931
Price: Same as TN

i heard LordEc911 Getting one i heard so tough you may not know who he is lol it a Officer in Custom PC build union

I think you'd enjoy it id like to know what people think about it tough i'm not the best suited to recommend monitor but i do good to try to figure thing with other I'm a bit new in that domain it Require Lot of Benchmark related monitor and Review Reading and eye looking the monitor by ur self and testing with mouse at some store like Bestbuy to sometime make the Right Choice

As far I was Learn and REad that T240 is like Among the Best Tn panel and it seem to being useless to spend 200$ extra For a dell 1920x1200 24 inch instead So spend 320$ for a Samsung T240 : 24 inch : 1920x1200 Rose black while dell was like 550$ +tax +2 week of waiting to ship I heard From people that LG / SAmsung / Dell Where the top monitor choice you are given in Tn panel : the dell and samsung Looked about same but could not see dell from my eye and touch it with mouse : try it on game ect. to know if the T240 is Inferrior of Dell UltraSharp 2408WFP : i think they Equal
