I put together the perfect first build for me and now all I need is a good GPU. I want to run Crysis at atleast an average of 40fps on high settings(2xAA if possible, if not no biggey), DX10, at 1360x768. I'm on a $850 budget and I've gotten everything else I need already except a GPU.

Here's my specs so far:

Case

OS

RAM

HDD

Mobo

CPU

PSU

DVD drive

Everything adds up to about $635 with tax and shipping added and a DVD drive+PSU combo deal. All I need is a GPU, so.........

P.S. I did have a HD4870 added to this build, but it raised me $60 over my budget. I was thinking of dropping Vista 64bit from my build and adding the HD4870 therefore putting me below my budget. I already own XP Home, but I feel that I should start my fresh new first time build with a new O.S. I've been using Vista for a while and think it's just as good if not better than XP. The only thing I don't like about Vista is the constant security pop up's asking me am I sure I want to open a file, download a file, etc. I also like to be up to date on current software, not to mention the option to upgrade my RAM in Vista 64-bit. Also to use the DX10 and DX10.1 features, hell I can run DX9 in Vista.

The HD4850 should average ~35fps at that resolution on very high.

I think your best choice at the moment would be either an nVidia 8800GT or an ATI HD4850 - though for the sake of $60, I'd wait for more money, then go for the HD4870 if I were you. No point in settling for a card that's not as good when you can go without the better card for now, then get it later on.

If you want to game at 1360x768 then a 8800GT or GTS would fit the bill very well. I have a 8800GT and it averages Crysis on very high settings(Dx9 Hack*) at 1280x1024 around 45 fps.

** Crysis on Dx9 runs better and looks about the same as on Dx10. Theres a mod that makes Dx9 version of Crysis look alot better than the normal Dx10 called The natural mod. http://www.crymod.com/thread.php?threadid=14195

I have an HD4850 and get 35 frames on High... I just got this computer, should I really be able to run it on very high like you said? I tried but it was too slow for me.

The 8800GT will not average 40fps on very high.

A 9600GT is enough for that. But why not a HD4870 like some said? It's well worth those extra 60$.

Get the HD4870. But beware, Crysis is very nVidia friendly.

With other games? Yes it is.

With Crysis? It's more on par.

Well, you could start by getting the Antec 300 instead of the 900. Next, get this power supply instead of the Corsair. Lastly, get a motherboard that doesn't suck along with the E7200, and overclock.

Bonus Round: Drop Vista and stick with your XP home license.

Super-Double-Bonus-Elimination Round: Forego Crysis altogether and get Warhead. If the optimization is just marginally better, you'll meet your target.

Does that mean you get 55-60 fps on all high ? The GTX 280 gets 50 fps on all high except shaders at very high, at 1280x1024.

He probably means when nothing is happening, which is most of the time in Crysis.

The 9800GX2 is the better card, but I certainly wouldn't get it. Performance is inconsistant from game to game and, being a dual-GPU solution, it's prone to microstuttering. I'd get the HD 4870.

Reduce to e7200 to free up more cash. Also, don't let DX10.1 be a selling point, as NO GAME uses it yet. Wait until a game you want to play requires it, then buy it for that reason. e7200 and hd4850 will get you 30 fps at that rez. It will NOT BE PLAYABLE at "very high" contrary to what Yoscar says. I question whether he has used the card or not. I've tested 2 hd4850s and a 4870, myself. A HD4870 with a more powerful CPU, for me, got an average of 35FPS on high at 1680x1050, and was unplayable at very high.

What kind of frames do you think I'll get with a HD4870 or 9800GX2 if I play Crysis on high, no AA, on DX10, at 1360x768?

At that resolution who knows, maybe 60FPS? Not sure on this one.

I'd say that's a pretty safe bet.

Also, are my posts invisible or something? Or is he just ignoring the suggestions he doesn't like?

Dump the antec 900, just use your old case, swap out that PSU for for a OCZ gameXstream 600w $79 ($44 after rebate), dump the dvd drive, use your old one or get one off ebay or something. Dump that mobo and get this. Get the HD 4870

Stop asking the same question 20 times in a row

Nvidia doesn't havea any major advantage in Crysis. 4870 is on par or even better then GTX260 in Crysis. 4870X2 also beats GTX280 in Crysis (even GTX280 SLI is slower then 4870X2 in 2560x1600). And to those thinking that 4850 is more on par with 8800GT in Crysis, its not. It's better then 8800GTX and on par with 9800GTX.

This site says that the HD4870 averages 60fps in Crysis at 1280x1024(higher res than 1360x768) on high, no AA beating the GX2 by about 7 fps.

Also what do you think about this NEW build?

GPU(HD4870)

Case

RAM

HDD

Mobo

CPU

PSU

DVD drive

Comes up to $842 which is under my $850 budget, but I don't have enough for Vista.:(...... I have XP Home, but XP is so 2 years ago and I like being up to date on my software.8)

Is having one post on the front page not good enough for you? People will give you answers in your other thread that they already see.
