My Dad hasnt got much experience with computers, and im kinda teaching him from scratch. He knows a few basics, like hiding open windows, some typing and using a web browser but i feel i really need to teach him how a hard drive branches out

Either way, what i really would like is a basic step by step guide that goes over the basic essentials to using a computer. Any help would be much appreciated as my Dad is REALLY enthusiastic and im struggling to teach:?

Thanks in advance

I dont exactly need long drawn out explanations, just some pointers of what to teach first

i dont know about a guide (google?) but i can offer a few suggestions.

1) Easiest step is to show him a diagram of a sort of how the C drive is the root of everything, including the desktop. Anything on the desktop goes into X folder which roots into the C drive. This will help him apply the information.

2) A good diagram type thing is a flow chart, liike the ones of Cryengine 2 variety. anyways.

3) Dont explain the Registry.

4) Dont forget to explain how folders hold files and hard drives hold folders.

Yep ive just taught him that and he understood it very well, he understands the difference between a Folder and File, so some progress there.

Obviously, something you should learn right at the beginnining is word processing, but the problem rears its head when it comes to saving, and as a result, you need to bring up the idea of files and folders, which when together hes having trouble understand

Either way, no worries, i think as ive said, he needs to pick up pace on typing and as time will go on, hell understand how the C drive works as time goes on.

try to make a real world connection.

ex: a filing cabinet.

the filing cabinet is the hard drive

the folders are folders (duh)

and the files are files.

When you write something, you "save" it in a folder in the cabinet.

That's an analogy.
