Hi everyone, im thinking of upgrading my PC so i can run Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3 at full when they both come out.

Right now i have this setup:

Motherboard : Alivexfire-esata2 (http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?Model=ALiveXFire-eSATA2%20R3.0)

Cpu: Athlon 64 x2 5600

Ram: 2 gigs of ram (ddr2 and probebly 800mhz)

Grahpics card : Evga geforce 8800 gts

Now i was thinking of buying a Phenom II 965 black edition (best cpu the motherboard will support) and adding 2 or 4 gigs of ram ( maybe this : http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4306216&Sku=P33-5094)

I might buy with all this a Evga geforce gtx 275 or a Radeon 4850x2 ? dunno really.. dunno if my power supply can handle it really.

Will my motherboard bottleneck the whole thing or will it upgrade nicely ?

What do you guys recommend ?

id skip both and get either an hd 5830 or hd 5850..or you could wait on the gpu till june and see how the gtx 460 fairs

the 4850x2 is very power hungry and the gtx 285 is underpreforming.. heck for LESS you can nab an hd 5850 and beat it sensless around the block :P

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814133256&cm_re=gtx_285-_-14-133-256-_-Product == gtx 285

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131351&cm_re=hd_5850-_-14-131-351-_-Product == hd 5850 pre ocd with better fan

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102885&cm_re=hd_5850-_-14-102-885-_-Product == hd 5850 with better fan and free copy of mw2

idk it sells itself.

now the 5830 is beneath both of these but by no means is a laughing matter of a gpu, it preforms well and in many cases come with free oc's for dirt cheap furthermore they scale well in cf.

granted most ppl still think its too expensive by a hair or two but its still a great card considering the preformance range your looking at as its more stable drivers picks fights with the gtx 280 as opposed to the 5770 which barely matchs wits with the gtx 275..

hey does that 5850 need to power connectors ? Is the Radeon 5850 power hungry too ? i think i have a 550 watt power supply

And do you think my motherboard would bottleneck all of this ? I only have PCI-expresse 1.1 (or 1.0) but not 2.0...

2.1 and 2.0 cards are backward compatible.. now the hd 5850 (under load) consumes only a little more pwoer than your 8800gts (about 15 watts more whcih im sure you can spare). it will come with a pci-e power connector feel free to use it in order to get power to the card in the event your current psu has insufficiant cabling.

happy trails :)
