So for my graduation present one of my friends mom got me this laptop, she said it was bare minimum and that I could work on it to make a gaming pc/for college type deal. She gave me a list of whats in it I will list it ALL and then could someone help me on what to keep what not to, and what to get to put in. I dont have a really good budget but im willing to put some cash into it for a nice gaming pc. I know nothing of putting these things together or really what is needed to run games, I plan on playing not to extreme games like AoC or whatever. Would be nice if its possible to get it running up to date though for a cheap price.

That laptop won't ever be good for gaming because of the integrated graphics. They can't be upgraded, period. The only things that you can upgrade in that system would be the RAM (by completely replacing the current modules), the hard drive, and the CD-burner. Technically, you could upgrade the wireless, add bluetooth and upgrade the processor, but these are more difficult and usually require more advanced disassembly. I am sorry if you feel misled, but it is a common misconception that you can upgrade a crappy laptop into a better laptop. You typically have to stay in the same class. If it was meant to game, it would have a discrete GPU. All others fall into the word processor/web surfing category.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220307

15.4" Monitor

Intel 2.5 GHz Dual Core Proccessor

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650

1GB dedicated VRAM (even though it could never be utilized by this system)

4 GB DDR2 667 RAM

250GB 5400 RPM HDD (the speed of the HDD is the only low point in this laptop)

Vista

$1299.99

This laptop is a monster, it can run Bioshock at max settings flawlessly, Gears of War at max running an average of 30 FPS and in heavy fights 25 FPS which to my experience seems to be better than the 360. Crysis on max doesn't run smooth at all, but then again this is a laptop - you can tweak the settings to still look great and get a good framerate. I'd reccommend this machine to anyone looking for a cheap AND fast computer.

SgtGator, no offence but i have seen this exactly the same suggestion in 3 threads so far. Can't you hold on a bit and write down something original.

Others have said enough about your situation. The best thing would be, that you write down how much can she spend on it, if she didn't it already. We'll find the best laptop for you for the money you have.

If the laptop is in your hands then don't worry about making it a gaming machine. Its for college, and to be honest with you, it was a present from a friend's parent. Take it and count yourself very very lucky.
