Hey everyone. After putting together my new PC, I've been having a blast playing all sorts of new games, and although I already have a great set of 2.1 speakers, I sometimes (for the sake of those living with me) need to cut down on the volume. For this reason I thought why not buy some good headphones for my computer?

I've never really bought heaphones for a computer, or a really good set for music, so I'm a bit of a newb a need some help. I've been looking around and researching and have found that apparently in most cases you can get a pair that are amazing with games, or amazing with music, but rarely both. I looked around for sub $100 headphones and so far the best has been the Koss Pro 4-AA which have been around since the beginning of time, but are still apparently the best heaphones ever made (at least for the price).

As good as they may be, they're 210 ohms and so I'm sketchy as to how good they'll sound on my 750i FTW onboard soundcard. Apparently you can get a cheap amp for them (someone's idea of cheap is like $100-300) but I'd rather not go that far into it.

In any case, could you guys help me out a bit? Also, my 2.1 speakers have a headphone jack in the volume control pad, and I was wondering if the sound would be better/on par/worse than if I hooked my headphones directly into my PC.

Thanks ahead of time for the help! I'll try and respond as much as I can once I get home later.

Have a good one!

210ohms will not run on a line out. $100-300 is cheap in hifi. It would be worse, they use low quality amps, volume pots, cables ect just in general terrible quality gear Closed back or open back? Circumaural, superaural or IEM? Goldring DR150s offer great value at the moment though it all depends on the type of sound you want.

The best results are from open back circumaural headphones. Good headphones are better than speakers. Get the best Sennheisers you can afford and you won't regret it. Don't use the headphone jack on your speakers. Go directly from the sound card.

I KNOW these would be good because I have a pair: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/handle-buy-box/ref=dp_start-bbf_1_glance Also, these might be better: http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-Open-Circumaural-Stereo-Headphones/dp/B002CX7LDM/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1251526571&sr=1-5 I use the HD600 for my gaming rig but that is out of your price range. If you do get the better headphones, an X-Fi sound card would be worth your while as well.
