I click to launch CS:Source in Steam, and a Microsoft Windows window comes up and says "hl2.exe has stopped working, A problem has caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." It doesnt notify me. I restarted Steam, and my computer and it still does it. Anyone know of anything else to do that can help? Thanks.

Yes, all of them except HL2:Lost Coast. So its just the online multiplayer games CS:S, DOD:S, and HL2:Deathmatch that have the problem.

Sounds like the files in the Source Engine have gotten themselves corrupt. The only solution is to wipe out all Souce engine games and clean all of the programs that use the source engine and then reinstall.

Is it newly installed? or did it work ok b4? If so, have you changed anything on your pc or installed / uninstalled anything since it worked ok?

Yea, thats what I was kinda thinking I would have to do, just wanted to make sure. Also, by the waymy I-Tunes isnt playing musiceither, there is no sound, I click on a song, and nothing, not even the progress bar goes so I know its nothing to do with the sound, cause my sound is on and all the way up. I know that is kinda random, but a lot of issues have just started yesterday, you think I have a virus? Though I havent played any of my Source games in acouple monthswhile so I have no idea when they stopped working.

No, it is not newly installed, Ive had it for while now. If worked fine a few months ago, but havent played them since, and now all online games like DOD, HL2:Deathmatch, and CS arent working though HL2:Lost Coast works. The only things Ive uninstalled since are Quake Wars demo, some anit-virus thing a couple months ago. IVE installed updates and COD 4 demo. Oh and Project 64 emulator.

Delete the ClientRegistry.blob file and everything should be fine (this file holds your account info so probably something got corrupt and that's the reason you can't run source games...at least most of the times).

Yup, sounds like uninstall steam, delete valve / steam folder, download & install from scratch I'm afraid.

A tip though. Once you've done that, configured your steam games, etc' Make a backup of the whole Valve / steam folder, preferably on another drive. Steam doesn't actually have to be installed to use. This means that if you have any problems in future, you can just delete the folderin program files& copy your backup version in it's place & you should be back up & running! You will have to let it update itself though.

I've also transferred steam from one pc to another in this way. In fact, I took my backup on an external HDrive to England. copied it to a friends pc & played CS:S from his house without having to reconfigure keys, favourites or anything!

go to steams forums and look up windows vista support. There is a long command that you type in that will fix the issue you are having.

Go to your steam directory*, in my case is "D:\Program Files\Steam", but if you installed steam at the default location then change D for C.

*right click your steam shorcut, select properties and then click the find target button, this will take to the steam directory directly.
