I dont know whether I should buy an 8800GT or an HD3870. Both of the cards are really good, but Im on a tight budget, but I still can afford both cards, but I want to save as much asI can.

it depends on:
1. your mobo (crossfire or Sli) you want to have the ablity to do that.....
2. your moniter..... the GT runs the higer res's better but it's more expensive.....
3. your personal taste, you may have had a good expereicnce with a card and you feel that you'll have a simalar experience with a certain brand or company....
The GT is WAY better. Menfear
is only 10-15% better but more expensive but with new drivers HD3870 can beat it. So my vote is for HD3870
the new drivers haven't been confirmed to give a boost like that...but it's a good card if it suits your needs
the GT is for people that run higher resolution....the 3870 gets destroyed at higher res's.
GT....hands down..... the 3870 can give you maybe 4xAA at that res.......EternalMaxI guess i'll be getting the 8800GT.
too bad its so much more expensive
oh well
I can probably get some more money next summer
In what? In crysis, UT3 , COD4, STALKER
3870 =
24fps
57fps
39fps
46fps
8800GT =
28fps
63fps
42fps
48fps
As you can see there is only a matter of a few frames per second on 1024x1280 AAx4...
HD3870 is 20 or 30 or even 40 bucks cheaper. And alot more of these cards are availabe compared to 8800GT.
Preformance: 8800GT is ofcourse better
Preformance/Price: HD3870 seems more attractive at least to me, where a matter of few fps isn't alot.
GT....hands down..... the 3870 can give you maybe 4xAA at that res.......EternalMaxyesh but Im already playing at 1280x1024, and I only have an 256MB X1600PRO, and its running at 2xAA
I seriously doubt that it can barely play at the same resolution with more AA

I just ran the benchmark, and it gets on average 10FPS. still playable, butI seriously doubt that the HD3870 cant get WAY more FPS cuz my card would get destroyed just by an 8600GTSyesh but Im already playing at 1280x1024, and I only have an 256MB X1600PRO, and its running at 2xAA[QUOTE="EternalMax"]GT....hands down..... the 3870 can give you maybe 4xAA at that res.......verparanoidpers

He is just bashing. I can play lots of games 4xAA, 16xaa and af with a rig in my sig so don't take his comment seriusly, although i did on previous page.

only on an x1950Pro? holy ****. The HD3870 in just about every benchmark smokes the x1950PRO!!!well to tell you the truth i don't know jack about Ati....i wasn't bashing.. im acuttualy pretty indifferent towards both nvidia and ati.
the only reason i reccomend the GT is because i know more about it and i feel more comfotable reccomending it.
i shouldn't even respond to things i don't know much about...my bad, and i recall my statment about the 3870EternalMaxehh, we all do that. for instance, the only Power supply i ever recommend is the OCZ stealthXStream.
okay. so I just downloaded the demo for crysis, and actually It performed better than I expected. these are my specs:
CPU: INtel core 2 duo E6300
Video Card: 256MB X1600PRO
RAM: 2GB DDR2-667
everything was set to medium quality except for water, and I was running it at 1020x768 in DX9 mode. I was able to get on average 10-12 FPS with it.

EternalMax
if you feel more comfortable recommending 300$ card over 250$ card, because it is better in games by few frames per second go for it. It tells alot about your intelligence.

lol wow man..... i'm stupid cuz i reccomend something that worked well for me?
sounds like another internet tough-guy to me....
You have 8800GT, you haven't got HD3870. Yes you can recommend it, it's not a bad card, it's great, but if he seeks for best preformance depending ON PRICE. And while he plays at 1024x1280 he doesn't need such a beast like 8800GT to play on above 1600x1200.
Go on, buy 8800GT, i don't want to convince you/him to buy one card since you/he ignore(s) me. It's your money. You can waste it with quad fx5200 card system if you want.
