First off I know most of you are going to say to build your own computer but I don't really want to deal with getting all the parts and putting it all together i'd rather buy a pre built one. With that said i have a max of 1500 to spend on this rig. I have been doing some research and have found this:

http://www.gateway.com/systems/product/529668210.php

It seems like it has some really decent specs especially with the i7 processor in it.

I'm just wondering if this is a good deal and if it isn't do you know of any other better pre built deals out there? Thanks.

only problem with these prebuilt computers such as this one is that the motherboard is total crap. IMO, i7 only shines after you OC them

not really worth 1250$, imo. The graphics card is too weak for the i7

Go to cyberpowerpc.com and build yourself a computer. I actually just bought one from them and there wasn't a single problem with it. Theres a lot of horror stories about them but to be honest its no different buying a computer from say Amazon or something. If you bought a computer and had a problem your gonna go out there and complain the people who bought a computer and had no problems isn't going to say thing because their too busy using the computer. Anyways, check them out atleast.

Thanks for the responses, does anyone know of a better deal then with pre built desktops? I have heard mixed reviews about the site mentioned above. I never thought of the option of having someone else build it is there any other more reputable sites that do this?

I can recommend cyberpower. I have 2 of them. They have been rock solid. I have not had a single problem. If you do get one do it directly from their site you can configure better. The wait was kind of long though for my desktop, but it was worth it. I would get a monitor seperate from newegg however for price and selection. And with an i7 setup I might go better than 4850. But I would definetly go with the Corsair 750TX power supply they sell with cyberpower, it is very good. Don't get a cheap power supply with that processor.

and if you go with cyberpower get the professional wiring and the high performance thermal compound on the CPU. I did and my CPU i7920 runs very cool. 30C max under full gaming load for hours.

try ecollegepc.com

I originally ordered a cyberpower desktop then when checking out their reviews I immediately cancelled. They have a crappy customer service. Thanks to a friend I found ecollegepc.com The good thing about ecollegepc is that you can just order the main parts like harddrive, case, mobo, cpu, optical drives etc. and you can buy the memory, gpu, OS yourself. If you do that you'll save a lot of money.

All these sites you suggested are getting really bad reviews. Don't think I want to go with them. I was looking at alienware, they're a little bit overpriced but they look really good and the specs are pretty decent. http://www.alienware.com/customize/a51-x58-desktop.aspx?SysCode=PC-A51-X58&dgc=SS&cid=39716&lid=1003794 I don't know though that gateway seems still like a pretty good deal though

that alienware is no where close to being worth what they ask. still need a monitor, don't know the brand of PSU, ONLY A 9800GT for almost $1,700! I would also check out newegg then. I wouldn't even consider this alienware. Keep trying.

I still think that the gateway is the best deal right now i'm leaning more towards getting that. I've read alot of reviews and most of them were very positive. It has the brand new i7, and, from what i read, ati's mainstream video card. They were saying they had no problems playing crisis on high settings with it, so that impressed me for the price im paying for it...

But i just found this on newegg

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883113092

It's got double the ram and a bigger hd. But i'm not sure no the video card is it better than the one i mentioned before?

For the love of God do not buy a gateway to crap computer.

http://www.resellerratings.com/store/eCollegePC
Those are the reviews for ecollegep.com

Get an Alienware or a Dell or HP or anything before you get a gateway. My friend spent 2,000 on a gateway gaming pc. He regretted it.

The i7 only works to its full potential with incredibly good motherboards and specialized memory. IMO you shoul really be looking at a PC with a Core 2 quad. Im running the 6600 model and it does me just fine. also you would need a better card (or two of them live i have) to really tap into that i7 goodness.

I just checked out that ecollegepc site and the custom configurator looks pretty decent. there were some high quality stuff like corsair 850tx, and nice selection of video cards. Looks good to me. That gateway says a GTS 150, I never heard of that.

actually reading some reviews about them they seem pretty legit and worth buying from. My problem is i'm not for sure what the best parts are to get with the 1500 max I have. I'm not for sure what mobo to get and graphics card. Anyone help me out by helping me price this out and see whats the best combo they can come up with?

I have the i7 920, theMSIx58 platinum motherboard, the 4870 1 gig, and the Corsair 850TX PSU, its been a great setup. I play any game at great settings. With that motherboard you can use Nvidia or ATI. The highest thing I recommend from my system would be the power supply 850TX, it got great compatability and is powerful enough to crossfire 4870x2. Plus 5 year warrenty. My system also just has 3 gig of ram for now. I have the sniper-G case with 2 120mm fans and it is always cool. CPU stock 30c max when playing games, GPU 32% FAN 45C, AND 42% playing games 60c max. They are showing quality parts on ecollegepc, at a decent price, but I never ordered from them.
