I am currently looking for a motherboard uprade because I think the rest of my comp is good. I will post links for each part of my comp so I can get recommendations for what I need to upgrade. Also the ones with links are what I have already upgraded. But first, my mobo is one from a slim pc ( i think its bottlenecking my pc) my specs are in my sig.

Search for guides for OC'ing CPUs. As for shortening the life span, yes it can. However, if you're looking to pick up a new MB and/or CPU, then it shouldn't really matter to you if you try your new found skills at OC'ing your CPU. Any stock cooling should easily allow for a small OC. I wouldn't rule out being able to step up a good .1 to .2GHz with stock cooling, easy. My current CPU, not really built for OC'ing, but when I take it up from 2.8 to 3.15GHz, I see one heck of a boost in performance. I generally don't have an overclock going with my CPU, but I can if I absolutely feel the need to. My specs: AMD 64 X2 5600+ (2.8GHz, Windsor chip), 4GB memory, XP w/ SP3, 160GB main HDD/500GB slave HDD, 750W Cooler Master PSU, 2 8800GTS 512MB in SLI and 22" monitor @ 1680x1050. When running Crysis (max settings, with no AA/AF) with everything at stock speeds, I average about 43fps. When I OC my CPU from 2.8 to 3.15, I can run Crysis (same settings) and I average about 50fps. Or at stock speeds I score around 10.8k from 3DMark06 and when I OC I score around 12.4k....just to give you an idea of how OC'ing your CPU can provide a good boost in performance.
