I've got a very old pc right here and i'm planning to upgrade it using my $550 budget. Sorry if this has been asked a million times i just have no knowledge on what motherboard and other stuffs to buy except microprocessor and video card. I was planning to get a video card G80 series because i want it to last a long time but my budget cant handle it.

My PC is old:

Intel Pentium 4 3.2 Ghz

ATI Radeon 9550

1 Gig RAM DDR

ASUS P5P800S Motherboard (still AGP)

What choice is better?

1. Upgrade now and use the whole $550 dollars to buy a whole new CPU but not including a G80 series video card i've been wanting.

2. Upgrade now but only the motherboard and microprocessor and keep the remaining budget for buying a G80 series video card in hope of it getting cheaper in the near future.

What are your reccomendations to do or to buy? Please correct me if something's wrong i have little knowledge on computer hardware. If you're wondering why i'm upgrading its solely because for gaming.

I don't really understand what you are saying for option 1.

option 1 means i will have to buy a whole new CPU (new motherboard, new microprocessor, new video card, everything) with my $550 budget but since its only $550 a G80 series video card cant be included in there can it? its mostly $300-$500 right?

If you can get something like the one in my sig for that price ( I bet you can) Then go for it though, unless you really want an 8800gts(Which would probably be wiser)

If you get a new processor and motherboard, you'll also need new RAM. What kind of powersupply do you currently have? How many total Watts and how many Amps on the +12v rail?

EDIT: From here on out, refer to a Microprocessor as a CPU, a CPU as a computer, and the G80 as a 8800. This will confuse less people.

Open the side of the case and look at the power supply. Tell us how many watts it says it has and what is under or next to the thing that says +12v. You can do that or take a picture and post it here.

Also, read the edit to my above post.

No problem, and you've got exactly the information I need. Unfortunatly, you won't be able to run a 8800 on that power supply. I'll try to find some parts that will work best on your budget.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817226001

Makes it $708 ( - $160 in rebates ) about $550 not including tax and shipping...
If you can afford to put out $700+ now and wait for the rebates to come back, this is pretty close to your budget and if you overclock the CPU, you will have a great gaming system.

CPU: AMD 4400+ X2 Brisbane $85

Motherboard: Foxconn A690GM2MA-8KRS2H $68 ($43 after rebate)

RAM (Memory): A-DATA 2GB (2 x 1GB) $80 ($65 after rebate)

Power Supply: Xclio stablepower 460W $50

Video Card: XFX 8800GTS $280 ($250 after rebate)

TOTAL= $563 (before shipping and rebates)

You're over budget when you add everything + shipping, but once the rebates come back you'll be under budget.

EDIT: Uh-Oh! All these will probably confuse you. Let me try to help. The first one will cost the most, but will perform better aswell. The second will have the worst price/performance and mine will be in the middle. If you can spend 700 at the moment, you should probably go for the first one. If you can't, go for mine. FYI, the first and this one come with a copy of Lost Planet along with the graphics card.
