Hello, I'm a little new to this and before I tell you about my computer I'm planning on building my next one...Anyways I have an Acer AM5620 with a Q6600, 3GB DDR2 @ 667mhz, 500w PSU, and an 8800GT. So I wanted to OC my CPU, but the bios has locked me out, so now I'm lost :? What can I do to OC my CPU? Is there a program that can help me do it? Someone said a program ClockGen, but I'm still a little confused. Thanks ahead of time.

Your locked out of your BIOS? Do you mean a password?

If so then unplug your PC from the wall then remove the little battery from the motherboard and wait about a minute before putting it back in.

If that doeset work look in your motherboards manual for where the jumper is that you can remove in order to manually clear the BIOS.

No PW, it just won't let me change any of the CPU settings and such.

You can try ClockGen or SetFSB. But they don't work on all systems, and I think you are limited to only changing the FSB...

you said you have an acer AM5620 you must know one thing 75% OF PC manufacturer Lock the bios to prevent you to play with VOLTAGE / CPU Overclocking : you'r limited probabely to use an unsafe programs to do it but try it may work

I have none of my Friend who bough a pre-build pc from manifacturer such as acer /gateway / dell / hp could ever overclock there cpu in the past 5 year but few people told me there a way to do it tough i forgot how there way to perfrom almost same overclock as if bios was the same the original motherboard bios

I would stay away from windows overclocking apps tbh, they're generally flakier than a kellogg's factory. Maybe have a look round on the net for a modded/unlocked BIOS for your motherboard, I doubt you'll find one but probably worth a look anyway. Other than that just get a new board or leave it stock til you get a whole new comp.

this actually does work. you can overclock without accessing the bios or using any program.

tape mod:

LOL, thats actually really funny, so I will try it. But it there a chance of the tape melting? or causing a problem for the CPU (I was going to use black electrical tape). BTW thanks! :)

doing that tape mod, just changes the CPU from 2.4 -> 3.0ghz. With that do you have to changes voltages and what not? but thats pretty cool.

it also changes FSB from 1066 to 1333

don't need to change any voltages or anything else.

DO you know why this "tape mod" dose this? and when overclocking more from my tiny test, the volts have to be raised quite a bit. but to be honset 3.0ghz, is fine.
