i pretty much have the same specs as you and i have a 9800gt and i can run fallout 3 @ 1680x1050 on high, and i think its a really good card.

and better then a 8800gt because its newer tech more effeciant.

ps all those cards arnt mid they are low range now

external? do you mean water cooling?
umm you could just get a bigger sink or fan.
But in my opinion if you dont know what card to choose then you prob shoulndt be over-clocking

"8800 GT outperforms the ATI flagship HD2900XT and HD3870 in most situations, and even NVIDIA's own 8800 GTS 640mb (previously priced at an MSRP of $400). The card, only marginally slower in synthetic and gaming benchmarks than the 8800 GTX, also takes much of the value away from NVIDIA's own high end card. The remaining 8800 GT cards are now being re-branded and sold under the 9800 GT name." read this on a site,i just wanna make sure whether the 8800 GT will run the games i mentioned above and upcoming games like bioshock 2,gears of war, mass effect 2 at a comfortable fps(on high settings at 1024X768)

I just upgraded from my old NX8800GT after its 1 year of service, though I can safely say that its a very good card, its time has already passed. If you want an investment you should go for a GTX 200 series such as the GTX 260 or 275.

Should you find the GTX 200 series more expensive, then you can always go for the 9800GT. Don't go for the 8 series since the 9 series is already out, and like what was said in the previous post, the 9 series is far more efficient.
