hey guys. im finally joining the 21st century and im looking to get a wireless router. the problem is, i really have no idea what to get. should i get a wireless G or wireless N router? what brand and that kind of stuff? I have all three consoles (although no adaptor for the xbox 360 at the moment) that i want to online game on, as well as a laptop i want to use with it. i live in a relatively small, 1 floor apartment, with about one room seperating the cable modem in the back room to the consoles in the living room. any help would really be appreciated, since i plan on buying one this weekend, in preparation for Goldeneye and black ops.

I'm not very well verse in networking equipment, but i'll try to help.

Wireless N is a fairly new wireless standard that allow for a much better range as well as faster speeds, I don't think going with Wireless G would be much of an issue though as you won't be moving around much if you're just planning to play games. As for brand, well Linksys is good, Netgear, ****** all look good. There is also D-Link but i have a wired router im using from D-Link and it sucks balls(always drops connection), but of course that doesn't represnt all their routers.

N is newer and faster than G. If you live in a small apartment you're going to want to read up on how to secure your network before you set it up. Nothing ruins the fun like having your internet shut down because your neighbor has downloaded illegal things through your unsecured network. ;)

I agree.

Remember to set your SSID and make sure that once you set it up you don't have it open to the public, otherwise people will find it and start using it for themselves causing you issues or if they wanted, they could possibily steal information off you just by connecting to your access point. Make sure you create a good WEP or WPA key.

On that security note, Windows 7 hates WEP. "Too old", or something, and it refused to go online on the wifi until I changed it over to WPA, but now my DS Lite can't go on the wifi in my house. Grrrr.

Buy a RT-N16, here's a handy link, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833320038&cm_re=rt-n16-_-33-320-038-_-Product

Stick Tomato on it, and laugh at your neighbours.
