I have a laptop from 2007 with Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit. It's a bit old so I can't run new games since 2008 that require high gaming rigs. So I decide to play older titles. But Vista sucks. I have troubles running several games from XP era. Some games have solution to fix the problem to make them run on Vista, but some aren't. I have CnC The First Decade but only 4 out of 12 games work on Vista. Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic won't work on Vista either, not to mention Starcraft. It's frustrating really. So I want to install Windows XP instead, but Microsoft already stopped distributing it ages ago. Any solutions!? Plz!!

Would be good to know the problems youre having with the games. Like what error comes up and such, cause for Kotor you need to set it to run on one core to get it to work

Well, my CPU is AMD Turion 64 dual core. I don't know how to set the game to run on one core. I haven't discovered such a solution on internet either. And for most of CnC games, I have the problem running them in resolution lower than 800x600. I believe its MAX resolution is 640x480, but there are some games that support higher resolution. I can fix some of them to work, but most aren't. Basically all PC game before year 2000 don't work on my laptop.

Try installing Vista compatibility fix, this might help you. Anyway, I suggest updating to win7 which is FAR better than this Vista sh*t and, as far as I know, most older games run on 7.

I know that the Kotor one works, cause a friend of mine had to do it to get it working for his quad core. Not saying its a guaranteed fix. You need to go into your task manager, find the process, right click -> set affinity -> only check the box for one core. This fixed it for (like I said) a friend when the game wouldnt even start up.

I can't be sure until I buy the new Windows to play my games, and it'll be useless if i can't get it work. Also, I believe Windows 7 is one-time use, does that mean I can't install it on another PC if I want to change my PC?

I believe the fix doesn't work for everyone. But I'll try. Thanks!

Ya, I think win7 is one-time use. Pitty of that. You can install it on only one PC (which is totally bullsh*t for me).

Yeah, Vista sucks.

Now, this may sound stuped, probably will sound stuped, and don't slap me if it does, but have you tryed running it as an Administrator? This is something that lots of people don't know they should be doing and lots of problems get solved on Vista by doing this.

If you haven't tryed yet, just right click on the game icon, after you installed it, and click in "run as administrator" or something like that. Normally it runs just like it would on XP. That is, if your pc has enough capacity to run it.

I'd suggest getting Win7. I haven't encountered any games from XP-era not working on Win7.
