Been having a problem with my PC of late, can only seem to get my rig running RAM in single bit mode and not dual channel, whenevr I put the 2 x 2GB sticks beside eachother in the same coloured slots like the manual says I just end up getting a long repeating beaping noise. My Mobo is a Gigabyte GA M57SLI S4 and the RAM is 2GB Crucial 240 pin DDR2 RAM, I just have no idea why it wont seem to work in dual channel mode, any ideas?

are these identical sticks of ram with same model and timings ect?

are you sure you read the manual correct and they are sopposed to be next to each other in the same colored slots? some boards use a blue and then a black slot, with a slot inbetween them for dual channel.

have you checked your bios settings before putting them in dual channel? there is a small chance there is a setting goofing them up.

have you listened carefully to the beeping sound and tried a search to identify the beep code?

also by a very very small chance there may be a jumper switch (there are some goofy boards out there)

Identical sticks of RAM, bought them in a pack. Says in the manual for Dual Channel the RAM must be in the same coloured slots when running 4GB. Googled a long repeating beap and came back with a CPU error? Doesnt make any sense :S, cant see any jumper switch btw and not mentioned in the manual.

I assume you've tried them in the other 2 slots too? Oh yea, and make sure you set the timings and voltage correctly in single channel mode before trying dual channel again.

Check your BIOS settings.

I had a problem with my MOBO not detecting the correct timings and voltage (eg. I had to manually set it to 5-5-5-15 @ 2.1 V)

Also set the divider accordingly.

The manual is garbage, says nothing about changing volts or timings so I am a little lost here, I will have a look around the BIOS and see what I can dig up then report back to you guys soon, ty for the help so far :P

i know with my amd system that the ram speed is directly linked to the FSB or cpu frequency. so if you put in some really fast ram, it might be overclocking your cpu in effect

my ram is rated for 500 but i actually had to turn it down to 400 save and exit bios. then go back in on the next boot and then adjust my cpu settings.

if your motherboard doesn't automatically adjust settings, maybe this is the problem. with my system it turns my ram down automatically if it fails a boot
