Hello,

I've never built a PC before and need some help on choosing parts. I tried looking around and found some parts in my budget of £500. Here's what i found:

MotherBoard

CPU

GPU

RAM

HDD

PSU

DVD

Case

I'm not sure if the PSU is good enough and if it has sufficient cooling. Also, I don't know if the parts are compatible. If you have any other ideas for a better build, please post them.

Thanks

I'd change the PSU to an Antec TP-550, the case to an Antec Two Hundred. Otherwise its fine. That GPU will need upgrading relatively soon. If you can afford it, consider the 6870.

Thank you for the response,

Antec TP-550 and Antec Truepower 550w are the same right?

Also i was looking for a case with a clear side panel, any recommendations?

EDIT: Also, the PC's main use is not gaming, but i would like to do some video/photo editing (ie. Adobe After afffects CS5 and Photoshop CS5). Is the GPU sufficient for this?

CPU is fine; if you want to save a few more seconds consider the X6 1090T, but the 965 is sufficient. The TP is the newer version; the TruePower is discontinued. If you want a side panel, I'd recommend this:

(And no, I don't work for Antec:D)

You wanted a side window. I'd go for an Antec Two Hundred. I built my first 2 PC's in them. Decent for the price.

ok. it seems like side panel pushes over the budget. any case will do. no need for fancy stuff. Any recommendations?

Also is the GPU suffcient for video/photo editing (ie. Adobe Photoshop/After Effects CS5)

Thank you for all the advice

GPU is fine, and the case I'd recommend is this Two Hundred:

So, final cost is £540. Any cheaper yet still good quality alternatives, maybe not from Antec?

Thanks

Same quality. Wouldn't parts cost more in the UK because of the VAT? And wasn't the tax increased to 20% or something? Anyway, that PC will serve you well and it had enough room for upgrade expansion.

Fine, if you plan on playing games in the future I'd get the TP-650, for a bit of headroom, but otherwise everything is fine.

Just a thought, if you will be doing light editing, drop the video card out entirely and buy this motherboard:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Gigabyte-GA-890GPA-UD3H-Motherboard-Phenom-Gigabit/dp/B003AP86RQ/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1289691797&sr=8-2

Which has onboard video, but this will rule out gaming until you buy a GPU. For heavy editing I'd stick with what you have now.
