Hey , just wanting an opinion on the build I've thought up.

Will all these parts work together? How long can this last me at HD resolution? Someone on this board also suggested that I get a Nvidia card instead because of Physx (I think), is that true? Is the CPU good enough at 3.0 ghz to last me a while? I'm pretty sure it's a Quad.

The case I have chosen may or my not fit in all the components. I've just chosen it to get a closer glimpse at the overall price and can change it up later. Also, I'm on a buidget of around $1100 Ausand any suggestions on parts arewelcome.

Thanks.

My opinion is tone down the Mobo and get yourself a black edition quad core.

If you spend $50 less on the mobo you can spend 50 more on the CPU.

Don't get me wrong, that Athlon II x4 is no slouch, but I prefere some easily accessible OCing headroom.

Also, what currency are you using? $300+ is way too much for a 6870.

EDIT: nvm Aus currency. Disregard what I've said, I have no idea how conversion work with your currency and I'm going to be typically American by not bothering to research it.

Haha, it's fine dude.

I'll try and tone down the mobo and see how much I can save from it and I still have to research how to OC. I'll probably learn after it's built but I have this fear of destroying the computer or causing the parts to not last as long. :P

The site I'm using is Umart for anyone interested. I'll edit back to update whether I've gone with the CPU/mobo changes.

EDIT: Okay, after browsing the mobos, most of the cheap ones only offer Sata 2. Do I really need Sata 3?

DOUBLE EDIT: I've decided to go with an AMD Phenom II AM3 955 Black Edition (3.2Ghz) 64-Bit Quad-Core CPUas the new processor. I'm sure this works with my current mobo. However, I would still like to know if Sata 3 is needed because I could get a cheaper Mobo and save that extre $50-$30 for something else.

SATA 3 isn't really needed, unless your picky about HDD access/seek times or your transferring lots.

Justa note, you don't need that powerful a PSU if your not thinking of crossfire, you could drop down to a quality 550watt.

Thanks for the advice guys.

Hmm, it looks like Sata 3 is out of the picture then since I don't really care about load times. As for the PSU, the 620 Watt is as cheap/cheaper than the 550 Watt ones.Weird.

I'm actually going to go tothe shops now and buy a case.I've been informed that I need a big one to fit the components andsome fans.

Any more advice? Or is the setupthe best I can come up with within the budget?

Thanks for the help.

I would get a cheaper case like the Antec 300 and also get a slightly cheaer mobo...put the saved cash into getting a Phenom II X4, aim for a black edition.

Hey.

Got back from the stores, they were closed. Glad to see someone suggested a case.

I found a new Mobo to lessen the cost of the new 995. http://www.umart.com.au/pro/products_listnew.phtml?id=10&id2=105&bid=5&sid=57521

Is this alright? It has intergrated graphics and was wondering if that will affect my 6870 in any way.

Oh really? Thanks for the heads up. Is their any reason why it sucks?

I'm having a really tough time finding a cheaper Mobo. If anyone can pick one out for meat http://www.umart.com.au/pro/products_listnew.phtml?id=10&bid=5&id2=105I'd very much appreciate it. I think that's the final thing I need to chose before ordering it.

Oh, and I went with the Antec 300case. I'll post up the final build after the Mobo is chosen.

Thanks guys.

Sorry for all the questions but would this be it http://www.umart.com.au/pro/products_listnew.phtml?id=10&id2=105&bid=5&sid=59335?

The only difference it has to yours is the "Evo" bit. If it is the mobo, that freaking rocks and saves me another $50 but does it support the Sata II hardrive that I've chosen? If so, that's basically the last piece to the puzzle and pc here I come. :D

The "Evo" pretty much stands for Crossfire/SLI, it has 2 PCI-e slots, the one you picked only has 1. If your not going to even think about adding a 2nd GPU, then go with the one you picked, if you are thinking of adding a 2nd in the future, it needs to be a Evo mobo.

I would just make sure of compatibility of the RAM you picked, I'm sure its fine, but it doesnt take more than a few mins.

Sorry about this but I didn't really understand how to checkif they are compatible. I know that the motherboard supports 1600 mhz ram.

Because my lack of experience, I'd greatly appreciate if someone would check if all these components are compatible before I order.

Everything is fine, but you might want to change the USB adaptor to a slightly better one, such as a wireless N one.

with a $1100 build you can get yourself an i5 760 build pretty easily. It destroys anything AMD has out easily in all games.

Well it does beat AMD, maybe not by the extent that he made out but it is 100% a better cpu in pretty much every way you look at it (apart from price.)

As far as gaming is concerned, based on some reviews I read, they are identical. Minus the price of course. The i5 basically wins if you plan on multitasking many things at once.

You have reviews...I actually owned the phenom II 955 OC'd it then returned it and got the i5 750 instead. You are correct that in most FPS games the difference between the cpus are negligible. BUT in RTS games like starcraft 2, you WILL notice a real difference. Also loading programs like office are also noticably faster with the i5. Windows start up can take almost 1 min 45 secs on the phenom II but with the i5 750 it will take less than a minute. These are REAL results, not just made up facts.
