I have bought Deus Ex on Steam but I am having a problem running it.i have Windows XP, GeForce 9500 GT and Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo CPU E7400 @ 2.80 GHz.

I cant even get into the game. When I press play this message shows up. It only lasts one second and you cant change anything. Then it disappears and nothing happens.

Deus Ex first time configuration

Your computer supports the following 3d devices. Deus ex has chosen the optimal one. If you wish to change this, highlight an option bellow.

Detecting 3d video devices, please wait…

Here's a link that will fix every problem you have with the game,

http://kentie.net/article/dxguide/page2.htm

You just need to read it for a couple of minutes, download the official Deus Ex Fixer 1.1 (which is right there), and that's it.

I downloaded the fix and tried to use it but it doesnt detect where I installed it, because I am using Steam version and I havent been able to run the game before. I tried looking for where I installed it but it is not in [steam folder]\steamapps\common\deus ex\. There isnt any game other then MW2 there and I have 5 others. I am not sure where Steam installed them.

This type of error happened before with other guys that downloded the steam version..

I have the original disk, bought it a couple of years ago, and never had any problem playing the game be it on Win XP, or 7.

There has to be a easy solution since its not a rare occurrence..

I'm gonna search a wile later after my coffee break, why don't you check out the support at Steam, maybe they'll have a solution.

Wait, i've got one.

Go to Start > All Programs > Deus Ex >

And run Deus Ex in safe mode., if it works, its good because then the Fixer will work since you started the game.

I checked out Steam support but I am waiting for them to activate my forum account so I can ask on their forums.

Tell me if it works after you started Deus Ex in safe mode, because maybe you can change the settings from the safe mode.

And if you cant, the Fix then will probably work, because you've started the game once.

Do you talk about those "Nix" on your coffee break and say "how bout those Nix?" I would hope that your office provided you with a water cooling station for you to lean on while you have this conversation too - its the American way!

Its not a office, its a service, we have a old PC here used for a program with every car model, with information about every single piece from every car, and every type of oil or other mat. to use for, etc. We usually have breaks wen we don't have many clients, today is sunday so.. We had a couple this morning only, i just stayed around here working at a old car that i have myself.

I don't live in the USA, i live in Europe, lol.

Ontopic: Thread starter, i wish i could of ben of more help, man, but i just don't know..
