What do I need to make sure I have in my Computer if I want to get an Intel Core 2 Duo E8200. RIght now my computer has an E6300. Are there things I need to watch out for if I'm getting a better CPU, such as cooling and and any kind of requirements?

Your motherboard will need to support 45nm processors. What do you have now?

Go to the site for the motherboard manufacturer and see what it supports, it may need a bios update.

Looking at your mobo's page on newegg, I see you have a Intel G965 Express northbridge, and a max FSB of 1066. The E8200 is based for 1333 FSB, and I would think your northbridge is too old to support the new 45 nm chips.

a bit of a waste of money, your going from a C2D to a revisied C2D basically, i doubt you will even see much of a performance increase. i doubt the performance increase is actually worth the hassle to be honest.

If I bought a new motherboard for the E8200 would i get a good increase in speed, or should I be looking at a different processor.

Basically, is there any processor near the $200 dollar range that I could buy and see an increase in speed?

Right now I have that motherboard, an E6300 processor and an Nvidia Geforce 7950 GT

Right now I'm looking at what I can upgrade to get the biggest increase in speed. Would upgrading my CPU or would upgrading my graphics card get me the biggest speed? Also, what would you recommend I get with a limited budget ($200-$300)?

upgrading your graphics card will have the biggest increase in performance mostly only in games however, but overall no increase at all. maybe a bit of memory might help alt-tab and others.

Have you tried to OC that CPU? I have a E6320, the same thing just double cache, and I have OC'ed to 2.8, and she runs noticeably quicker.

What would be the best way to overclock my CPU, i've been looking at that but I haven't found an easy to use program yet.

Also one Newegg it says that the 8800 gts requires a PCI express 2.0, iwch my motherboard (DG965OT) i think does not have. Does that mean i couldn't use it.

So then the card doesnt actually require a 2.0 slot?

Whats the actual advantage of having a PCI express 2.0. Would it just make the card run faster?

Would this card work with my current motherboard?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130328

Also would this be a good choice for around the same price?

xenophos

Sure the 9600GT is great. I have one with a Quad core Q6600.

you can still use that video card, and it will still run just a great.

As for overclocking, you do it in BIOS. just look up a guide for intel overclocking if you want a step for step guide

His motherboard does not overclock.

It's an intel board made by intel. They dont have any overclocking options in the BIOS.
