Can I use Intel Core™ i7 Quad Processor i7-960
with this motherboard
http://www.gigabyte.se/Products/Motherboard/Products_Overview.aspx?****alue=Motherboard&ProductID=2562&ProductName=GA-X38-DQ6
I currently have that motherboard , and if not is there an equal good precessor I can buy :>?

LGA 775 slot, impossible. You need a LGA 1366 slot for the i7 960. What kind of processor are you using right now? You can only get the old Core 2 Quad if you want a quad core CPU i think.

You cant put an i7 cpu on a socket 775 motherboard. Your only options are to ethier upgrade to C2Q(still good cpu's) or change out the cpu, motherboard and memory(if going the intel route for i core's) With the AMD route you will save money while keeping the performance, and even more money saved so if you reuse your DDR 2 If you have 4gb or more. if you only have 2gb you might as well upgrade to DDR3.

It all depends on your budget. You can just get a C2Q and you would be good for awhile until you decide to upgrade the whole thing. You can get a Q9400 or Q9500. Or you can go with my combo above(reusing your DDR 2 memory.) Or go with an AMD combo with DDR3.

Well if you don't want to get a new motherboard, the best thing would be to put in a Intel Core 2 Quad (I think the E9500 is the best one). But otherwise if you're gonna get a new mobo also consider the i5 760, its a Quad Core CPU, more then enough powerfull for todays needs, and spend the remaining cash on getting a very good mobo.

Ok, Ill give you a couple of more motherboards models that can use DDR2, but if you go the Intel route for i7/i5 etc you need DDR3. What site are you using for getting your parts?

ASRock A785GXH/128M AM3/AM2+/AM2 AMD 785G

Gigabyte MA785GM-US2H
