Hi there,

I have owned the Logitech X530 5.1 system... and it worked great till last year the sub gave up. My friend gave me his spare Home theatre active sub and built in amp. So i connected the Logitech speakers to that and it worked till about a month ago, when that sub/amp died aswel.

Now Im left speaker less and headphones are just not working for me.

First and foremost I live in South Africa,

Budget: R1000.00

Use: mostly for movies and games, not so much music.

Requests: I want something that has good bass.

As far as 2.1 vs 5.1 go havent really made up my mind, which ever sounds better, space isnt an issue.

So far Ive come up with these options:

1. Logitech Z523

2. Logitech Z506

3. microlab FC360

4. Microlab FC362

http://www.zapsonline.com/21-ch-speakers/41250-microlab-fc362-2010-version-21-channel-subwoofer-speakers-siml-fc362-10.html

5. Logitech X530

Local store for R599.99

Any suggestions or recommendations would be great.

Thanks

All of the above are really bad. If you want "good bass" you won't find that from Logitech, Creative or any other crappy brand like that.

First of all, I recommend that you go for a 2.1 or actually a 2.0 stereo since your budget is so low.. $120 USD correct?

Normally I'd side with Mozelle on this, but since you want the best movie and game experience (versus music) you can get and you have limited availability, you're probably going to be best off with the Z506. You'd be hard-pressed to find another PC surround-sound system at the price, particularly given the relatively limited selection of the retailers you linked. A 2.0 or 2.1 system would sound better, if you had access to reputable brands like Audioengine, but I don't know what your local availability is like, and I think the Z506 will probably suit you just fine. For my fellow audio autures reading this thread, keep in mind the source audio isn't going to be FLAC files, it's going to be game audio and compressed video for an average gamer coming from the X530, which I assume the OP was quite happy with until it failed. Good luck, Boz

Hi, Thanks for the help.

Yes Mozelleple112, R1000.00 (Rand) is about $121 (USD).

Yes Bozanimal, I was very happy with that set.

I tried to look for a pair of Bookshelf speakers and get a small amp and then an active sub but so far no luck.

Also I was thinking, wouldnt the sound be better from X530 then the Z506? And since the X530 are on sale that is a good deal (Std price was R1100.00? I know the Z506 are newer but if Im correct it has a lower output compared to the X530?

To be honest, I am a bit hesitant getting the same speakers(X530) again since the sub had died within 5 years (2005 to 2010) or am I just expecting too much from this sytem?

This is the shop that has the X530 on sale: http://www.hificorp.co.za/prods/office-automation/speakers/

Here is another shop: http://www.dionwired.co.za/

Any other suggestions guys?
