Is there a MMO that I can mostly play on my own?

My schedule is such that I can no longer dedicate regular and long amounts of time to MMO. SO long multiplayer dungeons and quests are a problem recently since I often need to leave a group 1/2 way through a dungeon.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

guild wars is good, u got a solid community and u got npc characters to fill the slots in the event u need more than 1 person. finally it has a large community should u ever get stuck and/or lost look me up if u join.

Yes and I do but I still love the variety of an ever expanding MMO, its just that I'd like one where I can solo a majority of the time. For instance in WOW I can solo but the solo content kinda sucks and is limited to grinding. So I'm curious if something else exists where I would be able to solo more...it could be that this doesn't exist.

Although, in Guild Wars for instance I can do a lot of quests by hiring NPCs. I would consider this an ability to solo and still play in an mmo environment, then when I have time I can join out real players.

Warhammer Online is actually pretty decent for jumping in, getting something accomplished, and logging out when needed. You can invite yourself to parties, so you can instantly get in on RvR battles or public quests.

You can also queue up for scenarios and go AFK if needed and then just jump in to play in the scenarios and get some good xp/renown.

Yeah but being able to invite yourself into a group is not what I think he means by playing by himself. I think he means the toon actually being solo.

Sounds like he just can't commit the time to large groups that are required to stick together for long periods of time, not that he is necessarily against playing with others.

That's exactly right...but I still like the content of MMO's but I want to be able to jump in and out and not disrupt others players and groups if I don't have the time.

LOTR is a terrible game i beta'd it. its initial gameplay ad content is more linear than a straight line (i swore it was impossible but theyve done it).

So why are you interested in playing a MMO as solo? The main point to MMO's is character interaction.. You might as well play singleplayer rpgs, or perhapes guildwars which has no monthly and is solo friend + the group stuff doesn't take very long.. To me this sounds like some one wanting to play Counterstrike source with bots.. A complete waste of time.

EVE online.

i have the same proplems as yours, EVE is very flexible, skills are trained even when you are logged off, and there is no such thing as thr grinders level up faster...

but only play eve if you are:

-a mature player

-deep Sci-Fi fan

-ready to decipher a complex game

I have an answer to this question! The amount of money that MMO's make is much more then single player PC games so some of the games (not all) are able to spend more money developing a more complex and intresting game. This as well as many people (like myself) like to stay connected to a larger goal but perfer to contribute in solo ways. This is also true in real life, its the difference between introvert and extrovert. But for me that is a side issue, for me its just that the games themselves are better because the companies can spend more money on dev work.

No it isn't.. A MMO is only more then a singleplayer with INTERACTION OF OTHER PEOPLE.. Most mmos don't have a narrative or a interesting story that ANY way compares to ones of the single player rpgs.. INfact most ones like WoW with out character interaction is a grind with very little story compared to a single player rpg in any way.. The games are in no way better in the solo aspect.. Thats seriously crazy to suggest such a thing.. Specially when all that "dev work" is attributed through a wide variance of leveled content ON top of it being alot of it group based.. Infact end game in most if not all mmos are all group based.. So that dev work is a oversimplification.. If anything as a vet of MMOs and a rpg fan sense the the early 90s.. MMos are designed with player intereaction, with out it you are playing less than half the game.. Furthermore mmos in no way have the story of the late greats of singleplayer.. IF they do its with a boring narative in text format, and doe snot go beyond a generic presentation.. There is a difference.

How about attempting to answer the question he is asking, rather than trying to analyze the psychological impact of playing solo in an MMO? That seems to be the true waste of time here.

dude meybe all he wanted was to play by himself because alot of the time ppl in MMO's are elitist and/or stupid and/or unreliable and/or sob's. and furthermore guildwars isnt single player only rather it gives u the option too versus playing with others without having u play offline.
