My dell xps 700 that I bought a while ago only came with 2 gigs of ram at 667 mghz, and I'm thinking that's the issue that I've been having with the slow down in newer games.

So I thought I should buy some fast ram, about 4 gigs to improve performance. The rest of my system is good and ram is the only thing I can think of upgrading.

What's some really realiable ram that's fast and great for gaming?

The speed of your RAM wont directly affect any games, faster speeds just allow you to overclock your CPU more. But if you got 4GB's you would get a minor increase in game performance in general.

What game do you have thats slowing down anyway?

2 x corsair dominator 2 gb pc6400 800 mhz ddr2.

this or ocz equivalent ram are both fine. You could also checkout crucial ballistix(dont know how reliable this is ). These 3 prob are the best .

Crucial Ballistix are a hell of a lot better than Corsair, even most of the Dominator modules.

Slow/insufficient RAM is NOT your problem though. My guess would be your graphics card.

My gpu is a 8800GT and processor is a c2d 6600 but at stock speeds.

I just can't find the reason for such slow performance in some games.

Apparently the games that he is trying to play are a seceret and he don't want us to know what they are. j/k

Really he should tell us what they are and at what settings. Better yet he should give us a run down of what all he has really just to make sure that it is all ok.

lol, no they arent secret, it just seems like my computer should get better than 24-40 fps in bf 2 and 2142. FEAR and far cry get better fps than those games but it's still lower than what I thougt. Upgrading from a 7900gs to a 8800gt didn't seem to make much difference.

The drivers for the gpu are the newest and I've tried others too. Temp levels are usually 44 to 52 celcius. Could it be my processor? Its a core 2 duo 6600 @ 2.4 ghz and my dumbed down bios wont let me overclock that thing.

Thanks for all the help.

Have you down like dfrag and spyware that sort of stuff?

How much ram do you have and what kind is it?

Also have you ever heard of cacheman program. I have downloaded this to balance my ram performance and it really seems to work great for me. I have not run into a problem with it at all.

Also I'm not just asking this person I'm asking all. Have you ever tryed out this program?

I usually defrag once a month or so and I just reinstalled windows xp last week. The ram brand is a samsung model and I have two gigs of it.

I'll try that program that you mentioned. Thanks!

44-52c? Sounds like the card isn't properly stressing itself.

Download rivatuner and set your fanspeeds to 50% if your house is less than 75 degrees F, if its more, set it up to 60%. Defrag, run cc cleaner, check all fans if they are working. Oh, and for ram, I suggest G.skill, they are highly reliable and are affordable. Patriot ram is pretty cheap on newegg.com also.
