I have never been able to enjoy PC gaming, I have always had a base system that comes from the box. After seeing games like Crysis and Fo3 on PC I decided to build a rig. Here is the list of my components. Let me know how good or bad I did.

Motherboard: Asus P6T Deluxe V2

CPU: Intel i7 920 2.66Ghz

CPU Cooler: Cooling Master V8

RAM: Corsair Dominator 6144MB DDR3 Tri-Channel

GPU:BFG GeForce GTX 280 SLI

Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar Green 1TB 7200rpm 32MB

OS: Vista Ultimate 64bit

Power Supply: Corsair HX1000W

So what you think?

That's one heck of a setup you have there. Only thing I might suggest different is the GPU(s). The GTX 275 perform just under the GTX 280, not only will you be able to save about $50-60 (depending on what name brand you pick out) on a GPU, but especially if buy two of them, that's about $100 in your pocket you saved. You wouldn't lose much performance that would be noticeable and plus this setup would do you good for the next 3-5 years, just as would using two of the GTX 280 cards.

I was considering getting another graphics card to bridge with the SLI feature. But I am not sure exactly how it works. Can I bridge 2 SLI cards that are different types? For instance the 280 and 275. I am also getting a 120hz monitor, not sure what size yet.

Ordered it from tigerdirect.com Was using mwave but for some reason they decided they were too good for my credit card. Sucks cause I would have come out about $200 bucks cheaper... Final cost is $1,900 and from what I can tell its alot more powerful than anything alienware has to offer for that price range.

The graphic cards need to be of the same chip set. So in other words you can only SLI a GTX 275 with another GTX 275. You cannot use a GTX 275 and then add a GTX 280 card, SLI doesn't work that way. Crossfire tends to be a little more lenient. I hear you can use a HD4870 and add a HD4890....but that just seems odd to me. I guess I don't pay enough attention to ATI and Crossfire to fully understand it or to even see the reason why.

I just got my rig put together! Gotta say that I wish I would have started PC gaming years ago. I went ahead and got another WD Caviar Black 1T 32MB 7200RPM. I was going to get a 120hz samsung with the nvidia 3d glasses but they didnt have it in stock at Best Buy so I went ahead and got dual Samsung 2333's. I have more monitor than I do TV and they have a better picture.

I do have a question about overclocking. I was looking in my BIOS while doing my setup last night and i decided that I had no idea what i was doing so i left everything dealing with clocking alone. Is there a good article that I can read to familiarize myself with the process? I really want to get the most performance this thing has to offer. When I started fallout 3 while ago it was running a little slugish on the opening video though... What would most likely solve this problem? Get another 280 and SLI the 2? I played Crysis for about 20 minutes and it was running great on very high but did seem a little smoother on high.

For OCing you really want to know what you are doing before you mess with it. Maybe google can find you a good article but you can check youtube for some how to videos that give you a general idea. Every motherboard has a slightly different BIOS though so navigation is a little different Basically though your CPU has a bus speed and a multiplier.. I will use my Q9300 as an example. Stock it is 2.5 GHz. My multiplier is 7.5 and the fsb is 333. 333 times 7.5= 2497= 2.5 GHz.. To overclock i simply change the fsb to 400 and then 400 times 7.5= 3000, or 3GHz.. However the 9300 isn't very good at overclocking since the multiplayer is locked at 7.5. With better OCing CPUs you should be able to play with both values to get a good OC.However it could get complicated because you might need to change the voltage on your CPU to support how much it needs. Too high and your CPU could overheat. Too low and and it will crash. It's pretty basic if you know what your doing, pretty risky if you don't. So jut make sure you read up first.. Look for articles or even forum posts of people OCing your same CPU and MOBO to get the gist of what you can do

Nah i reckon u should o/c the cpu, ive heard that the 920 can go as high as 4ghz air, but try aim for 3.2-3.4ghz, just do a bit of research on google, and fallout 3/crysis should b running at max, it only takes a bit of time 2 read and learn, and ur pc will run like a beaut
