Hi. I am having some issues with power consumption of my pc. Actually i have 2 desktop pc and a laptop. I mostly use my pc for work and a little for games as well. i play most games on the laptop though. Well the problem is that my electricity bill is getting way too much for me. I never turn off my main pc.

Its an Amd athlon 64 2800+

512 Mb DDR

2 hard drives: 80Gb 7200rpm and 30Gb 5400rpm

1 Dvd writer

ATI radeon 9550 - 256mb

400Watt PSU

Abit Kv8 Pro motherboard

15" lcd

Standard USB mouse and keyboard

HP Deskjet D2460 printer

ADSL modem

Epson perfection 640U scanner

Standard stereo speakers 2.1

Ok so thats all i have on the main pc. I need to reduce the power consumption of my pc. I have set the power options of my pc to 15min turn off the screen and 20min turn off the hard disk.

What else can i do to improve the energy consumption?

You could get a more efficient power supply. Let's say your current power supply is 60% efficient (a reasonably assumption given the age of your computer), and your computer uses 200w on average constantly. Its draw from the wall is going to be close to 300w. With an 80-plus certified power supply, you'd be down to 250w or less.

To also help with power saving, I'd turn off your printer and scanner when not in use. Really, I'd turn your computer off as well, but you don't seem inclined to doing that

lol... ok as for turning off my pc then thats an option i can't really consider. I host my files online through ftp. i continuously use them at work. And i have around 10 regular users who access those files. I can't really turn it off. I can restart it though.

Is there any software that can monitor the power consumption?

Thanks

Or even the 330w, your machine is hardly a power-hog. Still, if the price difference isn't too bad, a 380w unit would be a bit safer.
