I meet all requirements for the creator, yet when I open the game after the first screen it just crashes to the desktop with no error. I have updated DirectX and my videocard drivers to no avail. Any help is welcome!
Thank you

Mine crashes after the splash screen as well, but I'm just using the demo. Will need to get the demo working before I buy it. I checked the Event Viewer & it reported this error:
ATi2mtag - CRT invalid display type solutionYou guys might be getting that error as well. I've been trying different solutions from google but so far no luck. I'm going to try uninstalling & downgrading to the Catalyst 7.5 drivers tonight to see if that makes a difference (I'm currently on 8.5, the latest). Otherwise I guess it's time to upgrade or switch to Nvidia.
From what I can gather, I think Maxis games work with Nvidia cards than ATI. I believe when I last upgraded one of my PCs so a relative could play The Sims on it, I had to change out the video card from ATI to Nvidia as The Sims didn't like ATI & crashes were occurring that I couldn't resolve on that PC.
Someone needs to do a write-up of how to get Maxis games to work with ATI cards.
What is the fix without removing the d/l manager? I can't find anything about it on Spore.com other than the routine bull they tell you to do (update drivers, check background programs running, etc.). What is this mysterious fix you speak of???Shango3535
Sorry, found it in the FAQ. I'll post for others.
Q: My game crashes after seeing the EA logo when the EA download manager is running.
A: To resolve this issue, you'll need to update the EADM DMCmdPortalClient.dll file.
1. Double click on My Computer. 2. Double click on your local drive ( C: ). 3. Double click on Program Files. 4. Double click on Electronic Arts. 5. Double click on Spore. 6. Double click on Sporebin 7. There should be a file named DMCmdPortalClient.dll right click on this file and choose Cut. 8. Replace this file with the updated version found here. Note: If you do not replace this file, your Spore Creature Creator won't be able to patch itself. 9. Try starting the Creature Creator again.Note: If you've already uninstalled EADM, you can reinstall it by clicking here. Then, follow the steps above to replace DMCmdPortalClient.dll with the updated version. Without the EADM, your game won't be able to patch itself. Even if you do not choose to run EADM regularly, you'll need to run it when an important patch becomes available.
