So I'm looking for a new TV because my old TV can only take 1 HDMI port at 1080i which, kinda annoys me when I need to swap over the Xbox to Apple TV to the Blu-ray Player. Also I need some good speakers, preferably Logitech, and will work on an XBOX360

I am willing to spend $500+ on a good sized TV at 1080p. Note that I am living in Australia so everything can be different.

Any Suggestions?

$500 is not a lot of money for a TV, so your options will be vary limited. Even if you had lived in the US. I am not familiar with Aussie electronics prices.

The golden standard of HDTVS is the Panasonic ST50 plasma which can be found in the sub-$1000 for region for 50" based on US prices. In Norway which has the highest cost of living in the world you can get the 42" for about $1000 and the 50" ST50 is about $1300. You might want to reconsider your spending amount as the $500 range really doesn't offer a lot, while ST50 midrange TV is in fact so good, it'll humiliate pretty much ANY high end TV except Panasonics own top models and is on par if not better than the Philips flagship LED. (King of LED based LCDs)

if $500 is all you can go for, I advise you to check out Samsungs low end plasmas. The Samsung PNE455 (720p) and the Samsung PNE535. They can be found in 43" and 51" sizes and should around the 500 USD mark.

I know you said you wanted a 1080p, but the PNE455 is an AMAZING TV for the price and holds up very well compared to LED TVs costing more than double and easily beats out any other plasma in its price range. the E455 is cheaper than the E535 (which is a 1080p set) but the E455 has deeper blacks.

If you're sitting further away than say... 2.5-3.0 metres (from 51") you honestly won't be able to tell the difference from 720p and 1080p. If you sit from about 1.7-2.0 metres (as THX Recommends) you will clearly notice a difference.

You spotted quite the oxymoron there... Good Logitech speakers.. Yeah that's a good one ;) If you want good speakers... it'll cost a HELLUVA lotta money, but for budget speakers there are brands like Wharfedale, Dayton, etc that offer great sound for the price.

I don't know alot when it comes to TVs and that, I mainly bought equipment for PC. Presuming that the Headphone Jack would work.... Which it doesn't. Just answer the question please, I'm willing to spend $1000 now. TV: 42"+ 1080p Speakers: Anything with good sound and will work on a XBOX360

At that price you're going to have to make compromises either in screen size or sound quality. If you're okay with a 32" or 37" television - and this is fine for many people, you can probably get a modest line-level amplifier and speaker combination in the used marketplace. Dayton is based out of Ohio, and not available in Australia. That said, there are local speaker manufacturers to which you have access. Your best bet is to contact a local enthusiast and talk to them about for what you are looking. A cursory Google search turned up TC Loudspeakers which, while I don't know him or his business, I'm sure you could just call the guy and talk to him. Any enthusiast will know local retailers and should be a good source of information. Good luck! Boz

I already suggested the Panasonic ST50. the 42" ST50 is about $1000 in Europe, the 50" ST50 is about $1300 in Europe, but $1000 in USA. If its too expensive in Australia, try the Panasonic UT50...

I don't know where Aussies buy TVs, so I just ran through this search engine and found:

Panasonic UT50 50" starting at $949shares the deepest black level on the market with Panasonics more expensive ST50/GT50/VT50 but only half the brightness and ANSI contrast ratio, panel is more subjected to relfections, colour performance more or less the same as the ST50s, the bang for buck king of 2012

Samsung PNE535 51" starting at $699

Not quite on par with the UT50, but still great black levels, great colours, great ANSI contrast

Samsung PND550 59" starting at $999

Last years version of the TV above it, very similiar in performance, both are a great bang for buck.. so if you would rather have a 59 inch in your home...

Samsung PNC7000 58" starting at $899

This was Samsungs second best TV of 2010 and the third best overall of 2010, I'm surprised they're actually still selling it! It has become rather outdated by todays standard if you compare against other high end tvs like the VT50 or PNE8000, but the fact that you can get it in 58" for sub-$1K makes it quite the value, I certainly think it can hold its own against the lower end Samsung plasmas of 2012.

Your problem could be rectified if you buy an HDMI box or AVR.

If you are intent on buying a new HDTV, I suggest Plasma and I suggest you save your money for higher quality.

The TV you have is annoying you, and you may have got in this pickle by saving money back then. Spend a little extra, up your budget and get something more future proof.

That doesn't mean its good at all. Its probably the EX750 series, which is mediocre. Sony's only TV that impresses me is the HX950 series, as it is the second best LED after the Philips 9707, but also like the Philips, it is twice as expensive as a plasma that actually has even better performance. $1500 is high up there in the the ST50 range, you could probably get a 55" Panasonic ST50 for that money, and it'll blow that Sony off the water in every conceivable way.

Any speaker is compatible with a 360 / Apple TV and a blu-ray player... What you need is to set up a budget. Should we suggest... For example the Klipsch RF83s and an Emotiva amp? or Dali concept series and NAD amp?

I have been searching for a new TV. Reading all the reviews on these 2012 TV's and not many mention how gaming is on them. I'm going from a Mits 73" 3D dlp (great TV, the x took it), now on a 36" RCA Tube that had an awesome pic but no HDMI inputs. I have a PS3, xbox and xbox 360. I dont watch to many movies, just basic cable but do game a lot. ......Go Here Regards, Berry
