I am going overseas this summer and would like a netbook to write/use the internet/ watch tv shows on. I would like to spend around 300 and these are the best choices I have come up with but I can't decide which one.

http://www.amazon.com/Gateway-LT2115u-10-1-Inch--Netbook/dp/B0031M9SIE/ref=sr_1_1?tag=slickdeals&ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1273177143&sr=8-1

They both have about the same specs but the gateway comes with XP and the MSI comes with 7 Starter and a free case. The processor chips are different as well (gateway = 450 and msi = 280). Any suggestions? Thanks!

The 450 is the newer, more efficient atom. So I'd recommend any netbook with that over the old n280. XP seems a bit old now, but is still perfect for netbooks.

Edit: also just saw the Gateway is 10dollars cheaper technically. So you can easily find a small case for it for close to around 10bucks. Also the 6cell vs 9cell would make the Gateway more portable and lighter while still giving you great battery life since the 450 uses less power.

Unless you really want the portability and battery life, I'd go with a cheap laptop. Those have waaaaay more power than a netbook. I've seen them in WalMart for around $500-$600.

You'd rather get a cheap laptop instead of a netbook. I highly doubt that you will be able to watch TV shows or youtube on HD.

It's a little bit more, but I think it would be nice.

Intel Atom N450 1.66GHz
Intel GMA 3150 Integrated Graphics
250GB 5,400RPM HDD
1GB DDR2-667 RAM, upgradeable to 2GB(2 x 1GB)

Yes, I know it's $500, but it's a tablet with multi-touch capabilities. For full touch functionality you will need Windows 7 Home Premium or higher.
