Can netbooks run games very well? I haven't done much research yet, just throwing this question out there. I'm interested in playing PC games, but alas I have a Mac and don't want to shell out $200 for Windows 7. Any suggestions for my dilemma?

Some games I'm interested in: Everquest 2, Aion, Everquest, a myriad of free MMO's, etc.

PC Gamer did a special on that a while back (last year I think), you can try to find that. It was very detailed, several pages, as I recall. :)

I am inclined to say that it will not run the games you wish to play. Netbooks are horrible for gaming. Their graphics cards are about on par with a 7-10 year old discrete graphics card. The processors are typically single core and they typically have only 1GB of RAM.

Aion requires a 6600 series video card minimum so a netbook is way out of the question. Everquest requires a radeon 7500 video card minimum. While this is not a powerful card now since it is a discrete graphics chip as opposed to onboard like your netbook I doubt it will run. The same goes for everquest II. It requires pixel shading which a lot of onboard graphics lack.

The only netbook I know of that's ideal for playing games is Alienware's M11x. Supposedly it can run MW2 at full settings with a solid 30 FPS. My current laptop's still fairly new, but if I were in the market for a new one this is where I'd be looking.

Goes for about $1000 and puts the iPad to shame.

Pretty much the Asus 1201n, Alienware m11x (technically an Ultraportable), HP Mini 311 can play games. There's a couple others, but not many. Look for nVIDIA IONs or ATI Radeon 3200s, preferably the ION.

I'd go nuts trying to game on such a small screen... my laptop has a 16-inch and it feels cramped at times. :)

I have an asus eee pc 900 hd that I use for gaming and programming. It can play plenty of games, here are the ones I have:
No one lives forever
Halo: Combat evolved
Starcraft
Grim Fandango
Medal Of Honor AA and breakthrough
COD 1
Red alert 2
AVP2
BF1942

I really like this little computer, very fun. But like it has been said, it is not desirable for the serious gamer. But since I am not that serious, I find it fits my needs ok. Although there is much to be desired sometimes. I still wish it could play HL2. Also, I don't find the small screen to be that big of a problem.

Also, since I only spent $180 on it, It's quite fun to mod and was easy to overclock.

My friend's old laptop with an 8800 get's much more than 30 fps in MW2 on highest settings.

Netbooks and gaming in the same sentence?! Blasphemy!! Just kidding. At the moment you aren't really going to get much gaming power from netbooks unless you buy a really expensive one. In the future perhaps that will change.

You can play older games on any netbook. I think they're great for re-experiencing the classics.
