Cool. Despite me only using XP, I'm not concerned about it being Vista-only. I'll probably get Windows 7 someday and dual-boot that with XP, skipping Vista altogether, and I'll be able to play the game then. Judging by the game's progress, it will have been out for a year at the very most by the time I get Windows 7.

Anyway, hopefully it really will look that good in-game (on the PC; obviously it won't look anywhere close to that on the consoles).

I completely agree. I am completely ignoring Vista and I'm crossing my finger that Microsoft can really pull a decent OS with 7. I guess one of the reasons it is taking so long to develop is because there must have been some conflict between Remedy and Microsoft for it being Vista only and that OS not being much suppoted by consumers. Just speculation really, but it is a possibility.

The PC version will surely look fantastic. It's is supposed to take advantage of quad core and DX10 features. Hopefully they will support Nvidia PhysiX too. It is a shame it is taking so much to be released because the graphics won't be as amazing as when the game was first anounced, but they will be pretty good anyway.

I've been waiting for this game since it was first announced, DEFINATELY going to pick it up for xbox 360 once it comes out, since I use a decent laptop for gaming purposes and I doubt I'll be able to run Alan Wake on it when it comes out. :P

Looks pretty cool - character models weren't that great. Still I was hoping to see some gameplay!

It was great to see that they used Roger Federer as the Alan Wake model though!! Go Roger!!

Show actual in-game footage as seen from the eyes of the player, you 'tards. No one cares about your crappy attempts at being cinematic and dramatic.

Has it been confirmed as Vista exclusive?

I was hoping that since it was first hinted that this was a Vista exclusive a few years ago during that time Vista was still new so now approaching 2009 with Windows 7 on the horizon and Vista not exactly as popular with the masses MS had hoped for things might change and bring XP back to the fold.

Either way I have Vista so this game has always been on my list!

What genre does this game fall under btw, action adventure?

Like other posters allready said, i liked the enviroment but not the character models and their animations. The story resembles a stephen king novel, can't remember the title.

My understanding is Alan Wake is DX10-only (hence it having to be Vista-only), so hacking it to run on XP would be impossible.

But its also on the xbox 360 which is DX9 so I think the game is possible to work in XP if MS wanted to, although needing to hack to run it is another thing.

i highly suggest you go back and play max payne 2. the character models are improved by an incredible amount. they almost look as good as crysis' character models and that game has the best.

WINDOWS 7 is VISTA with touch screen, speech system, and some enhancements. It will get a UAC reduction, DirectX11, all available to Vista. Unless you own a Laptop, Windows 7 is not a major upgrade from Vista. It is to some students however.

I'm personally glad that Alan Wake is still "awake". However, it looks like we will still have to wait a fair amount of time until we actually get to play it. It's just good to know that Remedy are still working away at it.

They may look better than MP2 but they are a far cry from Crysis.

The general plot of the game is almost a complete rip-off of Stephen King's Bag of Bones, but I've been excited about this game for a long, long time and I'm glad to hear that they're still continuing with devolopment.

No I can assure you that they most certainly did! Check out my thread on some of the other people used for inspiration.

I agree. They're not far from Crysis at all. It's rather close if not better! We have yet to see the other characters up close.. so I reckon Remedy really improved the graphics since the showing in 2005 to keep things up to date.

Good to know the game is still alive - yet I'm not going to get excited about it till they give us something a bit better than a cinematic trailer.

Agreed that the faces are pretty ordinary

Well, it's not word for word, but even from the trailer, it's obvious the storyline is very, very similar. And yes, of course I will play it. I was just hoping for an original idea.

Funny you should call it a "rip off" of a Carpenter film, considering how much "borrowing" and remaking he has done. If if the story is similar, I don't think you can play In the Mouth of Madness, so so what?
