Hey guys. Anyone know when a new range of intel CPU's will be released, not sure if it's correct but i've heard of the Penryn cores that are meant to be coming out at some point?

Just not sure if i wanan upgrade my E6700core 2 duo processor to a quad core now, or wait for a new line of CPU's to come out.

ANy help or advice is greatly appreciated Thanks!

if you have an e6700 at the moment upgrading to a quad core anytime soon doesn't make any sense to me. Wait for there to be a large handful of games with PROVEN benchmarks before you do anything that drastic!

Dont upgrade to a quad yet, or anytime in the near future if you ask That E6700 could easily outlast the Penryn generation, but if you REALLY want to upgrade, at least wait for Penryn.

I believe the Penryn processors will be here middle of next month - but as has been said before, don't bother with the upgrade. Wait until Nehalem at the very least, unless AMD pulls some crazy moves with Phenom.

Intel is only releasing the $1200-$1400 EE Penryn in Nov. Everything else is coming out Q1.

It's too early to upgrade. For example, I'm sitting on socket AM2 right now so I have an easy upgrade path - I'll go from 2gb to 4gb of RAM, and swap my Athlon x2 for a Phenom x4 sometime later next year. There's really no point jumping too early on the quad-core bandwagon, few games utilize them yet, and by the time you're wanting it for performance, there will be faster, cheaper options available.

I got a Q6600, overclocked it, and am ready for Crysis. :D Let's put it that way :P

Nah seriously though, wait forever, their's always something better and newer that's around the corner. Just buy when you know it's right. :)

You've got an E6700, no point upgrading until Nehalem comes. Mainstream Penryn is expected to come in Q1 08.
