Just starting to look into pricing and what parts that would be good to use for making my own gaming rig.

intel q6600

Arctic cpu cooling fan

Evga 780i motherboard

8gb of ocz of ram (4x2gb)

EVGA 8800gts

Ultra case

ultra pro750w psu

500gb seagate harddrive

Vista 64bit

dvd-reader/writer

Would these be some good choices? any other suggstions would be apprciated

I would suggest getting a different brand PSU and sticking with 4 GB of RAM.

Also try shopping at www.newegg.com, its generally cheaper.

yeah i was mostley looking at newegg some tigerdirect. So the untra parts arn't worth it? okay i do some more checking

why 4 gb over 8? does the large amount cause issues?

its mostly because you wont see much benefit going from 4gb to 8gb in most situations

Do you do any overclocking? Both the chipset and cpu are based on older manufacturing techniques, so don't expect to overclock like you want too. And the 780i chipset is an old design too, same as the 680i... The 790i is a new design, runs cooler, etc..., so it's more future proof. And the Q9450 CPU has more cache, runs cooler, uses less electricity, and it's clocked higher. And you can get 4gb of low latency OCZ DDR3 1600 RAM for about $380 (4x1gb). 8gb of RAM is overkill. Put that money into the 790i chipset and Q9450 processor. You'll be happy that you did. Faster everything...

Hes going with 64 bit vista, so 8 gigs can't hurt. I heard installing the first version of vista may fail if using over 4 gigs, so you may have to take out a few sticks than update vista, than put the rest in
