Hi guys. I just built a new computer but can I have some advice on what it should be able to do and not do

and also, what I should upgrade in the coming years. I would REALLY appreciate it as I'm not as in tune with computers as I used to be.

I'm posting the names they have on Newegg, so sorry if they're long! Hahaha

I've got a 23" Samsung BX2331 LCD Full HD monitor

Cooler Master Full Tower computer case

GIGABYTE GA-MA785GM-US2H AM3/AM2+/AM2 AMD 785G HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

ATI Radeon 5750 Video Card XFX 1 GB

AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Black Edition Thuban 3.2GHz 6 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 125W Six-Core Desktop Processor

Antec TruePower New TP-750 750W Continuous Power ATX12V V2.3 / EPS12V V2.91 SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC "compatible with Core i7/Core i5" Power Supply

CORSAIR XMS2 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)

Regular keyboard and mouse haha, and that's about it!

How goes that?

It looks like a very nice computer however at 1080p your video card is gonna struggle a lot. You definitely want to upgrade it if you intend on playing modern games.

Would the Radeon HD 6870 be a better fix? :) Or do you have another suggestion?

If I were you I would've gotten a i5 750, which is cheaper and better than your hex core, and with the extra money, get a GTX 460 768mb.

There are plenty of video cards that could work well at 1080. The HD 5850, HD 5870, HD 6870, GTX 460 are good choices. Which of these you get depends solely on your budget.

Wait for 1 week, the 6950 and 6970 should be out then, now there's a upgrade.

Avoid anything GTX 460 with SE on it title/model name... Trust me.. avoid it with a passion. I call them "Sucker Editions". They are gtx 460 with less processing cores in it and lower standard clock... In essence, they are uber slow models being sold at the same price as the real models.

1080p on new cards I would go as low as a gtx 460 1 gb(768mb if you really stretching cost but prob avoid this card) upwards. You also have to take into account size of video card to your case but your in a full tower so not a real issue. Then again you have a micro atx motherboard so you might have to think about it and how the pci express slot is positioned . Its all gonna depend on your price range, how much power draw you comfortable with(electric bill) , how much heat you willing to deal with(again electric bill), and what you can catch on sale at the time.

One more question guys!

The card I want says it's PCI express 2.1 but my motherboard is PCI express 2.0

Does that mean it wouldn't fit inside the mobo? Thanks for everything already, this is my last question.

It'll fit fine, PCI-e is backwards compatible.

@The question about 6970, yes it should last you a long time.

Why did you build such a system? Its all over the place. You bought an AM3 hexa core processor for a mATX AM2+ (not even AM3) board in a full tower case (why not ATX)?, a 750w PSU that you won't use with that GPU, and a GPU that is slow. And DDR2 memory in 2010. Why?

I was wondering about that also but I figure that he got all those components on sale. If you look most of them up on newegg you'll find that the prices are, for the most part, reduced.

Best of all time? Its a motherboard. And a Gigabyte 870A-UD3 has twice the features and more room for expansion. Don't see USB 3.0 or SATA 6 on the US2H. Only 5 SATA ports too.

Maybe, but I have the same exact motherboard in my work system. Its sufficient and good value for the price. Besides, that was the only one I could buy that day.

Well I plan on upgrading the video card to a ATI 6870 ! The part was just on sale. And DDR2 will serve me for now! I already have DDR2 memory on my last system and I didn't really see a huge reason to buy a whole new motherboard and get new RAM. And doesn't the board that I have support AM3? It said so on the website.

But what would you suggest to fix it? I just parts on sale so I could have a budget computer that can run new games :)

The board doesn't support AM3 fully which is why it uses DDR2 RAM. The 6870 is a good choice though. I have one and it is a good card . . . especially when AMD releases drivers that fully support it.

Gigabyte 870A-UD3 + 4GB DDR3 1333MHz Kingston Value RAM. You can reuse the second PC as a server or backup system.

Well you'll have the mobo, the ram, the 6870, the PSU and case. I assume you already have a monitor and a copy of Windows x64 along with a HDD. Should be fine. One thing though - if you want 2 6870's in the future (or any 2 Crossfire cards) you really should buy a Gigabyte 890FX-UD5 as the 870A has only a x4 second PCI-Express slot which will cripple performance. For 1 card, the 870A is fine.

Stop the music...ofc the US2H supports AM3 fully.

http://france.test.giga-byte.com/Support/Motherboard/CPUSupport_Model.aspx?ProductID=3318&ver=#anchor_os

Heck, I'm running a AM3 CPU on it as we speak.

Don't bother upgrading the mobo / memory. DDR2 and DDR3 memory hardly have any differences.

Its an AM2+ board, not AM3 which is why it only supports DDR2.

Nevermind, I misread your post.

But to the TC, you shouldn't get a new mobo just because of DDR3.

True but the alternative has more features and better room for expansion.
