Hey, I haven't bought a new computer (Toshiba A500) in a while and have been out of the loop with all the programs out there. I am basically asking if anyone can give me some help/suggestions in things I should be doing when starting up my new laptop. I know Windows7 and everything is pre-installed but should can anyone give me a small list of things to look into. For example I was told to make sure I update my drivers. I dont know if Toshiba comes with extra programs that I don't need and just clutter up my computer? Are there little things to help performance out of the box? I know this is a broad question its just that when I bought a computer about 5 years ago (Dell) I remember a bunch of stuff that needed to be done and I had to bring it to an IT guys for him to fix up. It probably doesn't help that I have never used anything other than Windows Xp.

The computer will be fine when you first start it. Just go into add/remove programs and get rid of stuff you dont want or wont need

Uh since you're buying it new there shouldn't be any problems..lol. Like *lantheone* said, just remove the programs you don't need..but that's even unnecessary. Just update your Windows when you log on your computer, which should be an automatic thing once the computer is connected to the internet. Make sure you have a working anti-virus on the computer as well. If you want a good one..Kaspersky has a 1 month trial on their website (Kaspersky.com). Very good app by the way..I've been using it for a while now.

Ok Thanks. I guess things have changed a bit more over the years. Just Remove the extra software I dont need and update windows if needed when connected to internet.
