Shadow updates needs plenty of work. The shadow updates appears to not even be real time with the tree seen in the video being destroyed by the player.
I'm guessing by that overlay in the bottom corner means it's running on a PS3, I was kind of expected that it's be a optimized version of the Cry Engine 2 with a few extra tricks and that's what it looks like. Still I'm guessing by that shadow it's still limited on consoles.Shadow updates needs plenty of work. From the video it looks better on the PS3 and runs better there too. Still not PC quality though, but it's good for consoles. There's not as many shadows, the ones there are aren't softened, the textures are a lot less detailed and the character models are definately lower detail.
Why did they even bother calling this Cry engine 3?
JangoWuzHere
No worries.
According to SuperMario and his infinite wisdom, the engine will look vastly different and superior on PC's. Anyone with half a brain, in fact, should know this.
What we're seeing here isn't actually CryENGINE 3. It's CryEngine.. err.. CryEngineConsole3. Or something like that. But all you need to know is that CryENGINE3 in PC is going to be uber better than what we're seeing here. Like, much better. Far superior. You see, once we get the PC version and crank the graphics sliders up, the engine will transform into a completely different, far-superior, non-Crysis-look-alike one. Wait and see. Seriously.
Makes me want to see some games beside Crysis that use the CryEngine.
The pixelation on the console version is rather obvious. The water doesn't look nearly as good either. I don't think anyone should complain about it looking better on console.

Seen top end still struggle for perfect frame rates with maxed out Crysis on Cry Engine 2, what the hell are we going to run a vamped up Cry Engine 3 on?
I mean they must have made some real underlying changes to the engine to make it run alot better.
It's Cryengine 2 for the consoles, now it doesn't look as nice as Crysis on the PC now, but it does get close at least for consoles. I'd like to see an advancement in the PC version as well. ferrari2001I don't think it gets close. it looks like the shaders are a combination of low and medium, textures too, shadows seem to be half baked and the draw distance and LOD are horrible, I can tell I just finished playing Crysis. The explosions looked bland and cartoonish compared to crysis. They should have showed the PC engine first, my mouth waters from the thought, I meant look at the difference between CE1 and CE2.

If you did a better imitation of me I probably would of allowed you on The Force. I stand by what I said, anyone with a pint of Brain will know the PC version will look far superior then the current consoles.[QUOTE="JangoWuzHere"]

Ahhh, so that's why it looks worse. Now I understand.

Certain Crytek will demo CryEngine 3 on the PC, in addition the graphical fidelity will be vastly improved then what we are seeing now on the current console builds bud. What a step backwards. Looks good for a console game. Ill give it that, though.
I've seen no proof that CE3 will be a step above CE2 and quite frankly I doubt it. Have you seen what CE2 is capable of? CE2's potental has yet to even be tapped into. I hope more developers end up using CE2. I know there are a few games in development using CE2.
For those of you who said Crysis would always be exclusive to the PC I think that begs to differ and don't even give the using existing resources excuse because it obviously wasn't that.lucky326
I for one never said Crysis wouldn't ever come to consoles, what I said was Crysis wouldn't come to consoles in its current form. A Crysis Instincts isn't Crysis as we know it, it would be a complete redesign to convert the game from level loading to cell streaming, which of course would kill the large environment game play.
That said this is no more a confirmation of a console Crysis than Unreal Engine 3 2005 was a confirmation of Gears of War PS3. Developers just like to use their best art assets to show off an engine and Crysis is CryEngine 2's benchmark game.
Of course what we all knew about a consolized CryEngine 2 was the graphics would be severely held back; which the footage released recently completely confirms. I really have to question how many of these console users have ever actually seen Crysis; as I have seen several of them think this looks better than CryEngine 2.
Whoa, so what does this mean? Is it possible to have Crysis on Xbo 360 and PS3? If true those fanboys are going to be all over this

Is true. Is not even CryEngine 2 but mostly CryEngine 1.5. But this is because is running in 512 MB systems. Looks certainly well compared to some other games in consoles, but runs no so well. Take Crysis and try to run it in a two yers old laptop and you will see similar or worse results. But is matter of the platform, not the engine itself.
But the main thing is: will be better that CryEngine 2 running in a decent PC? The answer will be yes. The new iteration -despite I don't like the use of the "3" in the name, because is a evolution and not a major revolution as in the CE1 to CE 2- supports a deferred lightning system (maybe as in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and KZ2 to some extent), and if you see the sky in the vids you will se nice improvements in the density of the clouds... of course, degree of detail, DOD and textures are much lower than in the Crysis games from PC, but this is because the consoles. Also, the renewed editor lets you to develope levels to PC and instantly convert and compile the code to port to consoles, in a similar way as the Unreal Engine 3 tools for cooking maps from UT III PC to UT III PS3.
So

That would depend on your definition of Crysis; or to be more precise if Far Cry gamers consider Far Cry Instincts to be a accurate port of the game, which of course many don't.
They would have to scrap all the levels in the game and rebuild them with streaming in mind, AI and interactive distance would also be scaled back significantly as part of that.
and if you see the sky in the vids you will se nice improvements in the density of the clouds...

Looks like they pulled the volumetric clouds and put a 2D texture in to me.

What drama? The objective is to let the developers to make easier the port to multiple platforms from PC. As long as I can say (I have a Q6600, 8800 GT 512 and 2GB DDR2 PC and a PS3, and both versions of UT III) UT III looks and runs much better in PC -but nod bad at all in PS3- but the gameplay is mostly the same (well, 62 fps vs 30 isn't the same, but, you now.. ).
What I'm trying to say is: these features will not hurt the technical quality in PC games developed under CE3, and maybe will help some developers to make multis with the CE3. I want to see new titles with a different enviroments ant artistic design under this engine. One of the good things of the Sandbox Editor, is once you have the core gameplay, the deploy of the levels is really fast (actually there's more than 200 maps to Crysis Wars, and a lot of them to sp campaign also).
If you are talking about the excessive amount of games deployed under a single engine, this probably will not happen in the next gen: aside from UT3/4 and CE3 it will be also the iD Tech 5 and others, so the variety will be larger.

What drama?
Console users aren't used to modding communities, they are used to gaming being entirely a business model. Therefore when they got access to some PC mods they didn't behave the way one should.
Many PC modders were constantly harassed to bake their mods to run on PS3, I'm talking forums full of threads begging for mods to be baked over and over again. It got so bad some modders boycotted baking mods for the PS3, but then people started taking mods and baking them without the owners permission.
Like I said, drama.

Nobody said crysis will go to consoles ( yet). I'm a pc gamer and i hope for crysis go to consoles that way more people will play the game which is a great game. But no thing is beign anounced about crysis coming to consoles ( one of the reasons crytek stated was that is impossible for crysis to go on consoles wiothout comprimising a lot of stuff like graphics and huge open world)
