So today I bought myself a custom built computer and it should be ready in a couple days. I would like to know if this is a decent gaming computer, I mostly bought this computer for L4D and L4D2, The Sims 3 and WoW and some of the other games that are coming out.....

Here are the parts that I got......

Processor - X2 250 CPU

Motherboard - Gigabyte 780G AM2+ Mobo ATX

Ram - Kingston 2GB DDR2-6400 800MHZ CL5

Video Card - 9800 GT

Hard Drive - Seagate 500GB Sata 3GB NCQ 7200RPM

With Windows XP Home. Now I ask you what do you think of this choice?

First of all, I dont understand your order of logics here. You go out and buy a custom built rig and come here last to ask if what you ordered was good or not? Why not try first researching as best you can before pulling the trigger on anything, becoming therefor a well educated person on how good or bad of a buy you just did? Tell me im not the one with a screw loose perhaps? :)

I did research this before I went out and bought it and posted here. I am just seeing what you guys think so, I though it was a good choice.

And the price about 1,000$

what res do you game at? how big is your lcd you are trying to power up? I guess it totally depends on what you think is adequate / acceptable resolution you want to play at. If this was my rig, i would have gone with a beefier vid card, vista 64bit and 4gb ram. But again, each to their own. You have different gaming standards then i do.

"About $1000"? I think you can build that for around 600-800...

EDIT: Yep, just did it. 696.07 at newegg.

You got ripped of royally. Where the hell did you get this? I could've built a Core i7 GTX 275 rig for the same price.

Oh ease off with that I7 already, like it is some sort of god or something, it is a piece of freaking plastic and metal. But really, you could have gotten yourself a monster. PII 965 + GTX275/HD4890 would be a killer for gaming. I got my rig for about a thousand. You've been ripp(ap)ed off, lol.

You could get that with like $850, of coarse the case and PSU would be bad. So what you're saying I back up.

The i7 is trash compared to the i5. There's no reason for you to believe that I support the i7. I only said the i7 because it's much more expensive and I was demonstrating the difference. When compared to the i7, the Phenom 2 wins, of course. But, when compared to the i5 the Phenom loses greatly. Just read the conclusions and final thoughts of all of the reviews out now.

Nope. When I upgade my PC the i5 will probably be old news .. or really cheap. I am only going by what the professionals say. I've already tried to reason with you through benchmarks and power consumptions. So, now, I'm try to reason with you through direct quotes from the experts. Seriously, read the final thoughts and conclusions of the reviews. They all say the Phentom is pretty much irrelevant until AMD drops the price considerably which I hope they will.

But, again, you have an AMD logo as your avatar for a reason :D:D:D:D

Like he said, that's the conclusion of all of the review sites...not everyone likes a CPU the most because thats the one they happen to own, you could say its called not being a fanboy....hmmmm.

By the same token of your logic, shouldn't I ignore everything you say because you own a Phenom and have an AMD logo avatar?

Yes, you should. Nobody is stopping you. I have no intentions of reasoning with a person who draws conclusions based off an avatar. Yes, I like AMD at the moment, and I like their logo so I have it.You want another one?

Of course, I always seem to draw flamewars, but in the end they draw a person from making stupid choices, mostly.

So, back on topic...

Assuming you only bought the tower, I personally think you got seriously ripped off with that computer. And considering the overall build quality of a computer is primarily judged on price, it's not that great. But in terms of power, I think it's semi-decent, but it's gonna require an upgrade relatively soon (toss-up between the GPU and CPU). Oh, and you might want to get 2 more gigs of memory too, considering that is the 'sweet' spot for ddr2 memory.

Go ahead. Show me these consistent benchmarks where the Phenom blows the i5 away and is worth the extra cost and power. So far, youve only shown me one benchmark where they performance about the same.

I bought this computer at a local store in my area. I dont buy computer parts online... I dont live in the U.S and I didnt want to spend like 2,000$ on a computer. Like I said before I just wanted a little bit of an upgrade and something better to run L4D, L4D2, Sime 3, WoW and some other games that are coming out this fall.

There is no reason for everyone in this thread to bash me, all I was looking for was advice/thoughts/opinions.

Don't take our crititcism the wrong way. We're not bashing you for spending so little cash on your rig (actually, it's quite the opposite). It's just that the price you paid is a little steep for what you actually got in your system. Now, if it actually isn't possible to buy individual parts wherever you are, I guess you didn't really have a choice. However, if you did, that little time and effort spent in learning the very easy process of building a computer could've saved you a decent amount of money for what you bought.

You should've just imported it online from the US for half the price. You deserve the "bashing" you get. But, again, we aren't bashing. You aasked for our comments and we gave them.
