A bit underwhelming, not the game, but the video... I mean they go through what is expected, but doessnt show any nice bits thats either shocking or interresting...
Ah it is not a bad video, just very by the books, and shows what we allready know is great about the game.... Im exited ^^

so does that mean SP-only players, such as myself, can pretty much skip this one, and dig out DoW and expansions for some warhammer fix if needed?
Oddly reminds me of Company Of Heroes (Movement, Suppression, Retreat, Icons, etc).Swiftstrike5
That should be no surprise since it's the same company and engine.
Plus taking ideas from COH is not a bad thing. :)gogators4life
Yeah, but there's a nice limit. It needs some innovation. It seems like the added Retreat/Suppression because it was in CoH, which was popular. Retreat/Suppression (in my mind) doesn't fit the sci-fi theme of orcs, super-human soldiers, witches, and tyranids fighting to the death. It just doesn't seem like it's in the right setting, if that makes any sense at all.

I doubt that you satisfy your Warhammer "fix" with the campaigns in the Dawn of War series.
It's all about short, intense skirmish bursts, after all.

which I did. SP is the only thing I need. guess that makes me a non warhammer guy, though I have DoW and all its expansions. at any rate, if MP is where the money shot is, why bother with a SP campaign, and looks to be a degrading of MP anyway?
Team Fortress 2 seems to work pretty well, why not go all out MP with DoW 2?

Skirmish is Singleplayer too....

you see, I don't do skirmish either; SP I have DoW and Winter Assault; *Skirmish* I have Dark Crusade and Soulstorm.
still don't understand why the official SP campaign just simply cannot have what MP/Skirmish have? what exactly does relic want to prove or to do or whatever with that SP?

Technically, the campaign is basically RTT/TBS - most of the economic management you'll be doing (stuff like upgrading squads and buildings, .etc) will be in the TBS half while all the combat along with a bit of reinforcements managing will be in the RTT half.
Skirmish can't be a TBS (which totally contradicts the whole point of an "RTS Skirmish" anyway) and I'd like to see someone make a multiplayer TBS section for this game that won't take somewhere around the order of a few days to finish in one go (thus rendering it nearly unplayable for most online gamers, since they aren't going to spend all their time on it) so it'll be like the campaign section is TBS/RTT while the skirmish/MP section would be pure RTS.
In any case, I doubt you constantly replay the linear campaigns for Dawn of War and Winter Assault since they're not.. very.. replayable and Dark Crusade's/Soulstorm's nonlinear campaigns are basically a bunch of modified skirmish maps lumped together with some scripted ones onto a metamap which you conquer. In fact, I think that Dark Crusade/Soulstorm are better for the campaigns since they are far more replayable.
I just finished DoW and now I'm going on to re-play "Winter Assault"... I hadn't played DoW in forever and it was just as good as the first go-around... you just need to let certain games age after beating them, it's like fine wine.
This new version looks cooool though.. heh heh.
There are those who might complain that this is just shined up same-old, but as I said I just played through DoW again and this looks UBER polished compared to what I just played... that, and the improved use of cover for units is a really sweet thing... man I hope my machine is hip enough to run this when it comes out!!!
Thanks for the update and keep 'em coming!!!
oh gawd, it's so pretty that i wet myself.
it looks absolutely fantastic. it's like coh ubercharged. i love it.
Is there going to be a SP campaign for the other races?gozalo
no, but the SM sp camp will be good enough. In sp camp, you can manage up to 6 squads that can have up to 4 or 5 different abilites, each squad has a lot of depth and can be customized with different wargears. You can lose most of missions and still beat the camp, how? You just have to win the most important ones. Which leads to different outcome(s), as oppose to you beating all of the missions, etc. What you do in a mission and how you do it in a mission will also effect the story.
Getting SC2 over this for sure. Relic has the worst community support and comunication ever. Also, wth is cover behind trees and fences supposed to do when you're getting shot at by lazers and other stuff?fethelth
beacose just standing there while you are shot at by lazers is more realistic right?
Cover has been an under-estimated bit of this game from the beginning... in the DoW sp camp, I just built a Mongolian-style, over-run the enemy with shear guns and reinforcements... this actually looks like it might make you think before charging in...
... although I gotta express a little bit of "Yah-HOO!" when I've got six Hellfire Dreads puting up a withering field of fire while all the missles and las-cannons of my troops whomp from behind the armored line. When the Deamon starts rampaging all over the place in the end-game of DoW, I had three massive groups of Marines and four or five HDs and I got them to eventually "coral" the beast in a valley while they all shot from three sides... it was beautiful, he didn't know where to turn and just spun around and around until dead...
... ahhhh overwhelming firepower... I love this franchise!!!:D

um, considering the lazer would destroy the tree or fence, yes, you might as well be standing in the open.I'm glad to see that skirmish will have more basebuilding. Skirmish is where it's at for me, and I honestly wasn't so sure the lack of basebuilding would be something I'd like.
I just kind of hope it'll be possible to reinforce squads in skirmish the way you do in the original game and not just by capturing points the way it looks like they're doing it for the campaign of DoW2. Sometimes I just feel like turtling in skirmish and watching the AI come in droves through the meat grinder. :P I can't do that if I can't readily reinforce my squads should any of my men die.

um, considering the lazer would destroy the tree or fence, yes, you might as well be standing in the open.Lasguns aren't powerful enough to completely blow away trees or fences (they will actually go right through thin enough fences, but they won't wreck them), and even Space Marines don't carry around Lascannons for use against other infantry units. :|
Of course, you are ignoring the fact that a unit hiding behind something is harder to detect and/or hit than one standing out in the open for all to see, and obviously in warfare you'd do well to avoid getting shot at.
Also, weapons are easier to use when braced, instead of when you're wielding them without any support.

alright, can we just stop arguing? it's not like the game is realistic in 99% of the other ways anyway. This post may be bit l8 but ireckon first one its better i have CoH:OP CoH CoH:ToV and all DoW games the first dow to me is better but 2nd one has better graphics
