[QUOTE="Dracunos"][QUOTE="Dyrti_Byrd_2k2"] I apologize if threads like these have been brought up countless times. I'm pretty new to the boards and this is my first time in the PC Games forum.
In regards to gaming, I've been a console gamer all of my gaming life. From the original Nintendo to my most recent system, the PS3.
Our home is in need of a new PC. I could pick up some random package at Costco but I thought I'd give it a shot at building my own pc. I've given myself a budget of $1200 - $1500 for a complete gaming system. Through research I've found that this budget could actually produce a really decent system. I'm trying to complete the build before the next school year starts, so hopefully by August or September at the latest.
Great, so I've decided to see what kind of games I could look forward to with my new system. I'm a FPS gamer. I can enjoy the occasional Adventure and Racing game, but mainly FPS's (HALO, GeoW, and RFOM). I don't have the patience for RPG's and RTS's. My problem is, I don't see any PC "exclusive" FPS's coming soon. Unless I haven't dug deep enough, most of the future FPS's are also being released on consoles. If I had a choice, I would choose the console platform.
Are there any PC exclusive FPS's out or soon to come out that could help me committ to investing in building a PC? I've always read in the console forums that there are tons of great games only available on PC.
I should also mention that I play mainly for multiplayer games. I don't really have time to play the campaign modes.
Any thoughts?

Don't expect those amazing PC graphics with that budget.. Unless you're reeeally good, or get cheaper parts that may not last as long, or get some really good tips of what to by.. That'll give you an awesome PC, but not an awesome PC plus monitor.. Plus peripherals.. Plus etc. It'll probably look really good, though, and realistically it won't look that different compared to console games.. Most of it will depend on how the game itself was made. It's a lot different, though.. FPSes that are made for consoles have a much different 'feel' to them, and in my opinion they are much more.. 'clunky'. It will probably feel different to you as well in some way, and may just feel 'wrong', like how I feel with console games, I dunno. Halo is actually the only console shooter that didn't have quite as much of that 'clunky feel' to it, but I didn't play it much.. Didn't feel like anything more than the hundreds of FPSes I've played before : p There's some really unique games on PC, though.. Not enough, but you'll play an FPS that you couldn't imagine being just an FPS because there's so much more to it. Good luck if you decide to start playing PC games.
Really? In the latest issue of PC Gamer, in the Tech section, that's exactly the maximum you need to build your own highend PC that can run circles around a PS3.
And welcome to the PC gaming world. You'll find that it's much better!
I don't know.. Consoles are coming standard with multiple cores and decent graphics and such. I don't believe the framerates on consoles are normally as good as on PCs, but I spent 2k, with rebates, and that's with screen, keyboard, speakers.. My screen is decent sized, decent speakers, good non-gaming keyboard.. I would say the actual PC costed a bit over 1500 alone, and it can max out everything I've played so far, and he's saying he's going to spend that much 'for a complete gaming system'. That suggests to me that's new monitor and speakers and such. So 1500 purely for the computer, I'd say you need to beat consoles in terms of the numbers (as much as I know of them), and under that, you may match them. I'm sure someone here spends enough time getting annoyed in system wars to have looked it up, and they'll probably chime in and say the actual facts with numerical data : p
