So I've been looking at an 8600gt or an 8600gts, and I can't decide which one to get. Is there a significant difference in performance between the two cards? I would get an 8800 but I'm on a budget and don't have the cash to shell out for one. Also, can these cards max out games such as Company of Heroes and BF2142, and will be decent for dx10 gaming, such as running crysis and such on medium to high settings?

No huge difference between them at all, you can just get an 8600GT and overclock it a bit.

The 8600GT should max those games out @ 1280x1024 or lower, and most people aren't expecting too much from the 8600s when it comes to DX10 games.. maybe medium for Crysis though.

Those cards will max Company of Heroes and Battlefield 2142 easy as for Crysis and next release will be much harder

right now i think the 8600GT (in an overclocked form from eVGA or BFG, preferably) is the best bang for your buck. Its gonna handle all current titles at pretty darn high settings, most of them maxed out, and will be able to play games well into the future - even though it wont be able to max out the settings on those games. But for the price, id say its the best bet. Chances are, anyway, that you can save up your money for a bit, and by the time thos DX10 games come out, you can afford a top of the line card if you really want it.

But which one is better, cause I'm not going to be oc'ing it at all, so obviously the gts will be better for another 20-30 dollars.

If your not overclocking, then get the gts. for 20 or 30 dollars its worth it.
